Hi All,

Looking for some advice as the sticky describing changing the default directory for save data via the userdir.txt file does not seem to be working for me. I am running Windows 10, 64 bit.

I've created the userdir.txt file in the base CK2 folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Crusader Kings II" and I've tried various paths from ".", to nominating folders directly across different drives, with or without spaces but it replaces the folder under "My Documents" every time I run the game.

This is a problem as it conflicts with the default Windows behaviour of syncing this folder to OneDrive, as it is very large.

Has anybody else experienced this problem, or can somebody confirm that forcing the directory via userdir still works with the current version of the game?

Disclaimer: i'm not tech support.

It works for me in Win7.

1) Your issue might be caused by the game being in Program Files.
You could copy the game file folder elsewhere and start the game manually and see if it works there.

or
2) Do you get file extensions displayed in the folder Program Files ?
In other words, are you sure the userdir.txt is that and not a userdir.txt.txt in reality ?
A common issue in case of extensions not showing. Then the file won't work.
You could upload your userdir.txt file here so i could check.

3) When you only add a dot in the userdir.txt file, then the documents file will be created inside the game files folder,
so a made up new path and folder would be better.
Something like:

Well, I'm disappointed in myself now...

I had assumed I had the extensions on because that's the way I typically like to have my folders, and with the folder being populated by .dll libraries it certainly looked like I had them on.
Of course completely forgetting that unknown file types always show the extension regardless. Heaven forbid I actually bother checking the option before posting for help!

So yes, it was userdir.txt.txt. Who ever thought it would be a good idea to allow file type delineators within filenames anyway?

Thanks for the super quick response!

I had assumed...

First step into hell. I speak by experience. :D

So yes, it was userdir.txt.txt.

Good.
Simple issues and fixes, best issues and fixes.

Thanks for the super quick response!

You're welcome.
