-Uses a POP system similar to Victoria II
-Population units (POPs) can have their own species, ethics, and grievances
-Unhappy populations will attempt to change government or splinter into factions

This is literally Vic2 in Space, how many 4x space games have you played and wished they had a advance population mechanic like Paradox games? i know i have. and far to often the only thing you get it happyness and food, if even that. but now you get a whole rebel and faction system if not even more

just based on that even if the rest of the game would become "average" its a huge step.. and i can see this game being a big hit if it works the way i think it does

and imagine getting CK2 elements where if you had a monarchy you would have to play like mini version of CK where you must manage your offspring etc

AND what many of these games lack is a proper ground war phrase if it even exists. but imagine the Paradox style of wars in Space, and now also Space invasions instead of naval invasions.. just a simple converting from other Paradox games would make it sooo much better than the average games out there!

I never quite understood Victoria 2 and it's POP system but I find it a really ingenious idea never seen before in a game. So hearing it comes to Stellaris is great and could add way more depth and flavor to the game.

Victoria 2's pop system is amazing and I love it. Mainly because I'm a sucker for statistics, just like in real life.

Furthermore I was overjoyed when I found out it'd be in Stellaris. That, coupled with the rest of the game, leads me to believe it will be the best 4x game. Ever.

The hype is real.

The statistics is one of the best things about Vic2. Stellaris hopefully will master it

I hope we can "support rebels" in other nations as well, specially if that empire has conquered many other species. Imagine some vast enemy empire that's fully annexed several other species, but those species do not like being oppressed. You have a covert option to support their rebellion(s) and if they win, become your ally or at least very friendly.

I also hope over time there's a sort of "liberty desire" akin to EU4's colonies. If you run your vast human empire with an iron fist, eventually some of your farther flung colonies will get ideas about dumping their space-tea into the starport's airlock.

It already has CK elements. We don't need the breeding part of CK in a space freaking grand strategy game. Especially when monarchy type governments will most likely be the fringe minority.

Wish all Pdox games had that pop mechanic, always kinda ruins immersion when your population suddenly goes from all sunni to all Orthodox then from all turkish to all greek. I love gradual assimilation and seeing piecharts.

Actually, monarchy or even feudal system is quite popular in sci-fi. Star Wars, Dune, Night's Dawn and others...
Yes, it is - but i dont like it much. I like star wars and dune, but i dont consider them real scifi (now please, nobody get upset).
I just think of Scifi as a combination of technological and social projections into the future. You take the science you have, and you imagine what could happen to this and how it would affect society in the future. But thats just my opinion, man. :)

i wonder if there would be a reason to have different alien races over another, so you could immigrate tons of alien races to a planet because they maybe give some kind of adventage. but the population already there might get belligerent and nationalistic and demand a stop or they would revolt

They have said they have drawn some inspiration from Distant Worlds - in that game, you can have planets with different population types and set policies regarding them (accept/don't accept, assimilate, enslave, exterminate) with differing responses from them. You can even set a planet to be a slave colony and transport all you undesirable aliens there to work the mines or what have you...

My personal preference is just to exterminate - purge the Xenos!

Why do we fight?
-To protect the Imperium and deliver mankind from the evil of the xenos, the mutant and the heretic!
What is the xenos?
-A blight to be purged!
What is the mutant?
-A cancer to be excised!
What is the heretic?
-A shame to be expunged!
