I've downloaded Victoria: Revolutions via GamersGate, but when I try to install, I'm told "Unable to find an installation of Victoria."

I am using Victoria Strategy First version 1.03. My OS is Windows 2000 5.00.2195 Service Pack 4. My machine is a Dell Optiplex G1 using a Pentium II 433L (slow, but I go) with 192Mb RAM and 90.2Gb of free space on my hard drive. My Victoria game is located at C:\Program Files\Strategy First\Victoria.

Any help would be very appreciated. I can't figure out the problem.

Having the same problem except I have the Paradox Entertainment Version. The file is located atC:\Program Files\Paradox Entertainment\Victoria. I purchased Victoria with the bundle strategy pack that came out a while ago. I would really apperciate some help. This is frustrating beyond belief.

Welcome to the forum.

Check the registry, are there any victoria key there?

To read the registry: Click start->run. type regedit and ok. Search for victoria.

I was unable to find Victoria in the registry. I actually couldn't find a key for any of the paradox games that I have installed on my system which makes me think I did something wrong. Is there a search function in the registry or am I meant to just search through the folders?

Edit - Find or Ctrl-F3 will search in regedit.

For the OP, Rev had no problem installing on my Strategy First Victoria. (I have installed on D: though.) Check your registry.

I was unable to find Victoria in the registry. I would reinstall Victoria but I am not sure I can find the cd. (the bundle version doesn't require that the cd be in the drive) Do I have to purchase Victoria again or is there any other options?

Here is the exported .reg file from my SF Victoria:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Strategy First\Victoria]
"Install Path"="D:\\GAMES\\VICTORIA"
"Version"="1.00.000"
"Lang"="English"

You'd probably want to change the install path to point to your game.

Take backup of your registry before you make any changes!

Thanks for all the help guys. Unfortunatly I am not that computer savy. I have looked through the registry and checked the help files and I am really not that sure about how to create a new registry. Im really nervous about doing some damage to my computer. Would it be possible to give me more instructions on how to insert the new registry? Thanks for being so patient with me guys.

Take a look at this thread for some more details. Post here if you still have questions about it.

Sorry for not responding earlier. I had fixed the problem and didn't post that I had. The problem was that I replaced rather than upgraded my OS and the registries were obliterated. The program files remained, but I had to reinstall many things. Reinstalling Victoria did it.

Thanks for letting us know. Yes, that's one of the things you need to look out for when you reinstall your OS if you keep your games on a separate drive. Usually they'll run fine without the registry settings but you'll have problems patching them.
