EDIT: Ah, shit, how did I even fuck up the title? It's supposed to be "At the end of a chain of events, option supposed to give new ethics does nothing"

I was following a chain of events ("Old Gods" I think, I only know for sure the title of the last event , "Old Gods: Revelation") initiated through an anomaly. After researching said anomaly, I was tasked with visiting 3 marked systems, and researching something that spawned in them once I arrived. After the third one, the event was completed, and I was present with 4 options: gain influence (works perfectly), gain energy (works perfectly), gain Society Research points (works perfectly), and to have my native population gain the Fanatic Spiritualist and Collectivist ethics. Said option does apparently nothing, since there's no new ethics icons when checking either Governing Ethics in the Government tab, or checking the Pop Details in my home and only world. (I should also say, since it could be important, my selected ethics were Fanatic Militarist and Collectivist)
Here's a screncap of said event pop up, with the troublesome option moused over.

I'm not the only one to have seen this problem. Before reporting here, I first found this post with another user reporting my issue. There's some extra info on his post, but hopefully he'll come here too and share it properly.

Other important information, according to the guidelines:
  • My only DLC, if it counts as that, is from my preorder, just "Creatures of the Void".
  • No mods at all.
  • I saved the game right before taking the option, the issue is always the same when loading from there. I don't have an earlier save because I play without autosave. The savefile is attached.

I had the same problem with the gathering specimens chain of events. It was supposed to give me a new empire edict, but it did nothing. However, other chain of events, like the cristal entities one, worked well.

Heres my save (a bit later in the game after i completed the quest) with bugged reward for the Shrines of the Old Gods quest. I chose the last option which should change my ethoses. In the description it said it would change my ethoses to Fanatic Spiritualist and Collectivist (my empire was "Marvian Collective"- collectivist, spiritualist, xenophobe) but nothing happened and couldnt find any changes in any of the information windows, same as some other people on the forums.

Same event chain, same issue - nothing happened upon selecting the option to change ethos. I'm playing a xenophobe/materialist/pacifist empire here. I also saved right before picking the option, but my save's on another computer. Can go get and upload it later if it helps.

I had the same problem with a collectivist/spiritual/pacifistic empire. I picked the option to upgrade my spiritual ethos to fanatic and nothing happened, and the quest keeps hanging around in my situation log. Unfortunately I'm playing ironman and I therefore only have a post-option save.

Yeah, I have the same problem. I'm currently looking into the event to see what might be wrong. I also tried to manually fire the next event in the chain "anomaly.169" and got a message that there is "no event with ID [...]". So I dunno, seems to be something going on in that one.

Hey, I figured this one out. It's not really a bug I'd say or anything you can gather from a savegame. Turns out there's just some mistakes in the event script.

If anyone's interested interested in an immediate fix I attached two fixed versions of the event as mods.

The first one simply gets the event working, while the second one also changes your empire's ethics at the end of the event chain.

Eh, I like messing around with paradox events. With the older games it was practically a necessity that you had to know how to fix up a few things like this if you didn't want to go waiting for a patch, which could take quite a long while, so it's just something I've gotten used to doing and enjoying.
