Thats because you need to arrange games in advance. Anyhow, Its too copmplicated a game to just jump in like, say, medal of honour. Your best bet is to post that you will be having a game in X days time at X hour with your location and modem speed then people can arrange to take the evening off.
One thing I did think of was playing EU1 MP v1.10 instead as we played alot of this MP LAN and it was very stable and uses up considerably less bandwidth.
