I've just been playing the Core.025 HOI2: Doomsday 1.2 game, playing as Turkey, and am finally getting the hang of it. However, I note that, despite the official booklet stating that you can change the diplomatic sliders every six months(ie democratic/authoritarian/hawk/dove-lobby etc.), the game only allows me to change the settings every year. Is this a CORE addition or is it part of the Doomsday game or official patches? It does seem pointless to allow such an infrequent change of the diplomatic sliders as governments in that era changed their political oreintation dramatically. I just use the freedom" cheat-code to simulate a more historically rapid variability in political decision-making.

Secondly, why is it so difficult to steal blueprints or do anything on the Intelligence Menu section. Playing as Turkey, I tend to get anywhere from 5% to 20% chance to steal blueprints/sabotage tech-teams etc - depending on whether I'm targetting a minor country such as Greece or a lrger one such as the United Kingdom. Even sending a spy to any other country has a very low chance of success. What I need to know is what influences the success of Intelligence-operations. Is it only to do with the size and wealth of a country, and, to a much lesser extent, the bonuses granted by some Intelligence Chiefs, or can one improve the sucess-chances of intelligence-operations through other means?
Lastly, my Turkish armies did very well initially, when allied with Germany(which mysteriously doesn't ally with either Italy or Japan by 1939 - which is odd) , but were quickly forced to retreat as their supply/organisation got hit, even though I used the offensive button to boost supply. I suppose this may mean that every formerly-enemy-controlled province I pass through must have its infrastructure updated to allow better supply. Could it just have been that I was moving my infantry units through a couple of desert hexes, or do I have to laboriously wait for each province's infrastructure to be repaired before moving my military units on?

Hi,

Your comments really relate to basic DD versus anything CORE specific.

1) Slider moves are set at one year in HOI2/DD no matter what the book says. I'd say this is fairly reasonable considering the amount of difference modeled by these moves. Allowing further moves is also unbalancing, as only the player will get this advantage and I'm going to assume you're not making bad choices.

3) Supply. You need to wait until the Infrastructure gets fixed before pressing forward if there is much opposition. Otherwise your supply situation is awful, even with Offensive Supply.

Thanks. One other thing, the grey booklet mentioned that one should see a "shovel" sign and a number symbolising the level of entrenchment of a military unit. However, I can't seem to find it on the unit statistics screen. Has entrenchment perhaps been done away with in the original game?
