hjarg: "And iirc Texas and Hawaii weren't independent countries as well, so they don't count"

O.K. then what were they?

hjarg: "I guess that shows the reliability of the rest of your list as well"

I clearly said I was recalling the dates and facts from memory and wasn't sure of the exact meaning. If you doubt any of the others, check them. I didn't know you where a history expert, but by reading a few of your posts, it appears that you are an expert in every field.

O.K. I now have a common border with the nation I wish to annex. All things are done and I still can't annex them.

1) Common Border
2) Is a Vassal (for more than 10 years)
3) I have more than enough diplomats
4) Same Religion
5) Never been at war
6) Same religion
7) Diplomatic relations of 200

I have all the requirements met and it still won't let me ANNEX.

Ok, i am willing to admit i was wrong. I checked up the facts and seem to have completely forgotten independent Texas.

Was that an insult??? I'm an expert in every field??? IIRC i have said nothing about nuclear physics, astronomy, budhism, biology etc etc etc. Just wondering- what makes you say such a strange thing?

But one's basic history knowledge should point out that Stalin was quite busy fighting Germans in Russia in 1943, and that Norway was happily annexed by Germans as well. World War II, you know. And basically, i'm an expert in THIS matter, for i live in one of these Baltic states- so i should basically know my history- not to mention the fact that i finished university as hisotry major.

May I interpose for a moment?
I have had to edit a post in this thread. Arguments are fine, great in fact as, usually, one learns from them. However name calling will not be tolerated in this forum.
Please see the sticky thread "Posting To Forums" in this forum.

Make fun - not war!

Thank you - please continue..........

Can't help but nitpick. The U.S. did *not* annex Texas in 1836. U.S. President Andrew Jackson regretted his decision not to proceed with this action until his protege James K. Polk finally concluded the annexation of Texas into the Union (not a military action, btw) in 1845, shortly after Jackson's death. Texas became a republic following its successful revolution against Mexico, and failure to be annexed by the U.S. The annexation of the Republic of Texas to the Union was 1845, and the act of two independent nations.

Needless to say, Mexico did not necessarily agree with or recognize any of the above until the conclusion of the U.S.-Mexican War in 1848.

Of course, the Republic of Texas had a common border with the U.S., though its status as a vassal is very questionable.

Annexing: urrrgh

HI,

This is my first post, as I've only been playing since Saturday!

Anyway, I have the same problem annexing.

I was England, and I tried to annex Ireland. I had everything that the manual said, 10 years of vasselisation, and a 200 point rating, but "Annex" was greyed out. (I even tried to get 10 years of a +190 point rating: I watched it, and it didn't go below 194 all that time.)

Any ideas why? Is it because of the permanant Casus Belli?

Thanks for your help

Nick P

There are two things the manual doesn't mention: you must be allied, and you must be the leader of that alliance. Incidentally it doesn't matter a hoot what your relation value was during the vassalisation period, only what it is now. (although if it dropped to -200, they're probably not your vassals any more :D )
