Duke has vassals.
Vassals become unhappy with Duke and rebel.
You are given option of declaring war on rebelllious vassal.
You march to vassal, conquer vassal, siege and take the castle.
Now, it seems there is no way to force the vasal to either become your vassal or to return to previous Duke's patronage. UNLESS you already have that claim which for most places you wont have unless you created the Dukedom.
Instead the county is inevitably independant unless the Duke's forces conquer it. Or even more frustrating, another vassals forces conqeur it and just occupy it indefinately or conclude peace .. whereby the rebel goes independant. Grrr.
Grabbing a claim on the title is too BB expensive.
So over time, if you have lots of principalities/Dukedoms vassals rebel they are able to go independant even when you've whooped them back into line.
Annoying.
