It may seem strange and I´m ashamed, but after all this time playing the game I still don´t get it 100%:

a) If You want to vassalize, You need
- same religion
- royal marriage
- relations above 190
- despite what the manual says, You don´t need a common border

Question1: Are there also time constraints (e.g. 10 years royal marriage)?
Question2: If another country has about equal relations to the country to be vassalized, does this hinder Your efforts?
Question3: Does having a military alliance with the to be vassalized country help?

b) If You want to diplomatically annex, You need
- a vassal
- royal marriage
- relations above 190

Question1: Do You need a common border for THAT?
Question2: Time constraints (e.g. vassal for 10 years)?
Question3: Does having a military alliance help?

[The Manual is incorrect here... :)]

Question1: Are there also time constraints (e.g. 10 years royal marriage)?

No

Question2: If another country has about equal relations to the country to be vassalized, does this hinder Your efforts?

I have no idea.

Question3: Does having a military alliance with the to be vassalized country help?

I don't think so at least not directly, but I think at least indirectly I know it does. If you have a mil.all. before you vassalize then your little vassal will not be able t break your grip as easily as he will not be able to get royal marriages.

b) If You want to diplomatically annex, You need
- a vassal
- royal marriage
- relations above 190

Question1: Do You need a common border for THAT?

Yes.

Question2: Time constraints (e.g. vassal for 10 years)?

I think its 10, but you can check for yourself if you put the pointer on the little 'peacedove'-symbol to the left of the line telling you that xxx is your vassal. The roll-over text tell you when that happened so when the possibility to annex emerges then you can calculate.

Question3: Does having a military alliance help?

I don't think so. Not more than he will be more tranquil than if left to his own alliances and political adventures.
