Playing as Germany. Paris is occupied 26 Oct '39 at 5am . On 29 Oct at noon, 3 days after Paris falls and I've already occupied well over 1/4 of mainland France, the Flanking the Maginot Line event triggers. Finally, on 6 Nov, after I've occupied over half the nation, I got tired of waiting and forced the event (2021) via the command console. Has anyone else had problems with the Vichy event not triggering as it should?

France might decide to keep on fighting... Maybe that happened to you as well. As CORE has so many interconnected events I tend to display them in a message box, in order to keep track of such things.

Event 2021 isn't random, so what can prevent it from triggering?

You expect me to recall what the event contains by giving me it's ID? :D But I know that there is a chance that France might decide to tough it out, which would prevent Vichy from forming. Happened to me during the beta for one.

I had occupied well over half of France before Vichy fired for me , I think I was as far south as Bordeux when it finally fired. So a little more patience probably solves the problem.

I know what event 2021 contains. What I was asking is what *other* events, new to CORE, might affect it. I met Event 2021's requirements for 10 full days. Since this event is checked for every 3 days, that's 2-3 checks that either failed to occur, or were prevented from occurring by some other event.

@Bom, I had occupied the entire French Atlantic coast and all non-Vichy provinces except the Maginot line. Well over half the country.

BTW, 2/3 of France's troops were in the Maginot line at the time Paris fell. Even after I forced the Vichy event half of the French troops were *still* hunkered inside their forts. In spite of the new Flanking the Maginot Line event.

In my experience you need to conquer more land in CORE than in vanilla for Vichy to fire. Dunno why, but it seems that while vichy would fire after your initial breakthrough was underway with northern french provinces beginning to fall like dominoes in vanilla, I make it all the way to the mediterranean with only scattered pockets of french resistance remaining before they give up in CORE.

Thanks, Ackillez. Considering I controlled over 60% of the nation, I'm still wondering what CORE has changed to make it behave in this way. This needs to be looked at by the CORE devs because it dramatically reduces the usefulness (nevermind the historicity) of the Vichy event if the Germans have already conquered 80-90% of the country before it can trigger.

Hi,

Figure out the problem. The Vichy Event triggers of of lost National provinces rather than VP. CORE has changed the FRA National Provinces to almost double that of Vanilla. So to fire Vichy you needed most of Metropolitan FRA. Putting in a correction for the patch. Thanks!

You're welcome. I knew "patience" wasn't the solution to this issue. :p

As far as I can recollect it we changed it in 0.25 from 'regular' provinces to core provinces, to prevent ITA gains in Africa from triggering Vichy way too early. But who's counting... :p

The event is still extremely beneficial no matter how you look at it. In all honesty, the difference in the time it takes to make Vichy fire hasn't changed dramatically, because once you've established a foothold through the French lines and taken Paris, the rest of the country falls quickly and without much real resistance.

Hi,

Probablly the best thing about Vichy is that is reduces partisan activity in occupied FRA. This alone makes it well worth having IMO. But you shouldn't have to conquer almost all of France to get it to fire.

Besides the wonderful reduction in partisan activity, I like it because I don't have to attack the half of the French army that's hunkered inside the Maginot Line. It's also nice in that it immediately wipes out about half of the French army and navy, which I then don't have to deal with when I inevitably attack Vichy later on (after I take out the Balkans and Norway).
