Hello, I wanted to know if this problem will be fixed when the new DLC comes out? It's to know if I should buy it or not, because currently it is almost impossible to play with this error, and if they don't fix it I won't buy it, although I love the game.

It is not possible for Paradox to fix this or any hardware/bios problem in a DLC, nor even a game patch. It is up to Intel and the motherboard manufacturers to sort out in the end, all we can do is find ways of working around it in bios, as you can see in this very thread.

But does Intel fix it or not? To avoid the error I have limited it to 60 fps, but I don't know how to do it in bios.
It still fails me the same.

To enable us to try to help you, you have to first state the model of your CPU (for example i7 13900k) and your motherboard manufacturer (ASUS, MSI and etc).

Also are you having these crashing issues only when playing Victoria 3?

my processor is: Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-14900K processor, 3200 Mhz, 24 main processors, 32 logical processors

I have limited it to 60 fps and I play, it only happens when I play it at maximum speed, but when I play it at less than the maximum I think it doesn't happen to me, I still have to try it for longer.

What’s the brand of your motherboard?

Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
Gigabyte has apparently released a new BIOS update for some of its motherboads:

Go to https://www.gigabyte.com , find your motherboard model and download the latest BIOS released for that model in its support section.

Afterwards, go in to your BIOS and adjust your Turbo Power Limit to “intel Baseline”.

This should at least mitigate the problem a bit and hopefully somewhat reduce the occasions of the crash, I can personally confirm that even though it has NOT completely fixed the issue, this setting appears to have reduced the crash occasions for me.

Hope this proves to be useful for you.

Update:

Asus released a new Bios update (for my board at least) that completely removed the previously introduced Intel baseline profile and instead of it allows the user to choose “Intel default” or “Asus optimised oc” settings.

Thanks again for the updates! I take it affected users should select the first of those options?

Is it very complicated to install? I don't know much about computers, I still took it to a technician and he installed it.

No it’s not that complicated.

Just look at your Motherboard manufacturer website, look up your motherboard mother, go to its support section and you should see the new bios version ready for download there.

Afterwards, in order to instal it, consult your motherboard’s manual and it should be there.

If you are confused about the whole process or aren’t comfortable enough doing it yourself, I suggest you enlist the help of a PC enthusiast friend or relative to do it for you.

but that solves the whole problem?

it should help alleviate the issue.

All I can tell you is that in my case, crashes tend to happen much less frequently and I haven’t had any crashes in Victoria 3 so far. This is of course in case I experience one in the future.

Edit: BTW, you should always have the most recently updated BIOS version anyway OP.

I updated the BIOS and the game keeps crashing, said by the technician it is a problem with the game, not the computer.

I'm hesitating whether to buy the next dlc or not if it doesn't work out.

When updated, did you implement the “Intel Default” option in it?

If so, you may have an unrelated problem. Make a new thread here and supply the problem details and history, and system details, thanks.

I don't think so, I didn't update it, a technician did it.

But if you have to do all that to be able to play victory 3 because it is poorly done, it is a shame.

We just tested Victoria 3 with Intel’s default settings after seeing this, what I can confirm is that in our 1-2 hours gaming session this morning, the game (not the system) did crash to desktop once, so in my case at least the problem hasn’t been completely addressed BUT before these BIOS modifications (this one and the one prior) the number of occasions the game would crash in the same 1-2 durations were more.

I cannot say in all honesty that I think this is strictly a Victoria 3 or Paradox specific problem because I have experienced these occasional crashes to desktop in Total War: Pharoah too. Our I9 13th and 14th gen CPUs have stability issues unfortunately.

HOWEVER, I do hypothesise these stability issues are getting aggravated in certain games in which performance can be perhaps further streamlined in certain areas. After all, Victoria isn’t as hard on the computer as a program like Cinebench, is it? Yet it tends to crash even though Cinebench or basically all CPU stress tests don’t.

So long story short, I hope they can do something under the hood to alleviate this problem on their part.

Well, since we don't know exactly what happens under the hood when things go wrong on high end Alder lake, raptor lake or meteor lake CPU's (only Intel would know that), we also don't know if a CPU stress test would trigger the exact usage patterns the games do (those games that trigger the issue).

Case in point, on my long-ago-retired Athlon system using a VIA KT266A chipset. Almost anything ran without trouble (including various CPU stress tests), but an application I was building myself back then was constantly running into trouble. Crashing at points where it really shouldn't have. Turned out I had an issue with the memory management unit of the CPU. Which went off to different memory addresses that it was told to go to by the program.

It turned out I could move the crash point around (or even alleviate it completely) by inserting dummy instructions at specific locations in my program code. What happened was, that at certain specific memory locations, the MMU would flip a couple of bits to a different value, and thus generating a target memory address than the one that was intended. And that caused access violations to trigger.

I ultimately 'solved' the problem by ripping out the existing Athlon CPU and motherborad, and installed a new motherboard (NVidia this time) and new Athlon CPU. Never had this particular weird problem ever since.
