Summary

Victoria 3 crush at start. Can't play the game.

Description

Hello, as summary I can't play the game. I have 210 hours, haven't played in a while. First I tried to download the last version of open beta but couldn't make it to start a game/could't launch the app. Then I rolled back to 1.4.2 and can't even start the game as it crashes before and, if it makes it, after the loading screen. I tried to disinstall and reinstall but still nothing. Can you help?

Steps to reproduce

just start the game.

Hi! Could you please upload your crash logs found under "Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria 3/crashes" as well as your DxDiag file (Start menu -> DxDiag -> Save all information)? Thanks!

Hi! Please find attached my DxDiag and the crash logs. I tried again with 1.5.7 but the issue is still there.

Hi! It looks like the game crashes before it can even log any useful information (the minidumps are corrupted/empty).
Could you try the usual:
- updating of the Nvidia video drivers
- deleting the folder "Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria 3" and trying to run the game after that (it will rebuild the shader cache)

If that doesn't work, we'll move the thread to the Technical Support as they might have more ideas on how to troubleshoot the crash on the operating system side.

If the above steps won't work, the DxDiag points to a Windows logging file under "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportArchive\AppCrash_victoria3.exe_ecf4e8a9b067cbd7fa4cf67ce6411b388814e7c_58a0de62_43059ed4-cad1-48f9-ab0d-82fbb7cd9e35"
If you upload it, it could be useful for Tech Support to further troubleshoot the issue.

Hi tried both suggestions you made but didn't work. Please find attached the windows logging file you asked for. Thx

Could you please check if your paging file size is set to auto in:
Windows -> Advanced System Settings -> Performance -> Advanced -> Virtual Memory -> Change

Instructions here -> https://www.tomshardware.com/news/how-to-manage-virtual-memory-pagefile-windows-10,36929.html

It should look like on the attached screenshot. If it's not set to Auto, please toggle it on and restart the computer.
If it's already set to Auto, we'll move the thread to Technical Support as we're out of ideas.

Hi, first of all thanks for the help. I tried what you suggested: it wasn't set to Auto so I did it and tried it. Unfortunately the final result han't changed, I can make it until the country selection map and then it crashes. I attach the last crash report.

Thanks for attaching the files! The last one matches a CTD in our database and I raised it with our programmers.
We'll continue to investigate, in the meanwhile I'll move the thread to the Technical Support in case they might have any ideas on how to further troubleshoot the issue.
Apologies for the inconvenience!

In the light of that, not really sure what I can contribute here?

As to the paging file matter, I'd recommend a max setting of at least 32gb.
