When I zoom in the game, the fps drops drastically and crashes occur as time progresses. In the map mode where the buildings are not visible, the game looks quite fluent. Especially during the war, this situation started to become challenging. I don't think it's because of the graphics power since I'm playing the game on Geforcenow servers.

version 1.06

I dont use any mod.

Unfortunately on GFN I don't think we can get any logs or other info, which makes it hard to help.

What OS are you on?

Not sure what I'm seeing there TBH!

DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

I can't do that because the GFN doesn't allow it. I can only view system information on Steam.

I think you should work more closely with Nvidia. They will probably help you optimize your game. The problem seems to be purely software, because I can play games with much more challenging graphics fluently. In Victoria 3, even when I pause the game, the fps drops seriously while navigating the map. I have difficulty in battles because of the falling FPS and then the game crashes. There is a serious performance increase with the 1.06 update, but it seems that you need to release a new update for the close map mode where buildings are visible. While saving the game yesterday, the game crashed. Even the menu part is not stable.

You can run dxdiag.exe regardless of use of GFN - it comes with Windows.

If you believe this is a game bug, please post in the Bug Reports forum here, thanks.

What if you run it locally rather than on GFN, do you get the same issue?

Hi, I have exactly the same problem, when completelty zoomed out I can get like 100+ fps, when zoomed in and especially when zooming in or out the fps is terrible, often less than 10. Im not using any service though, just playing locally on my PC. I really wish there was some solution for this, its not very much fun to play like this.

You have some crashes in the nVidia driver there, so let's do a clean reinstall of that first:

- uninstall it and all other nVidia software
- reboot
- install the latest by fresh download https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
- reboot again

Unload GeForce Experience if now running.

Then Right click on Victoria3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, refresh rate 60.

Is that any better?

Thanks gotta try this tomorrow. What do you mean exactly by "Unload Geforce Experience if now running"?

nVidia have an app called GeForce Experience, which tries to optimise graphics settings for games. Sometimes it makes ours perform worse. If you see it running in your Windows Task Bar, right click on it and choose Exit or Quit.

Hi,

I did everything you mentioned and I don't think it really helped with Vicky, or if it did, the effect was quite minor. It did help a ton for other games though, I have so much better performance so really thanks for that!

Ill post my dxdiag again, don't know if it can tell anything more.

I see no cause of this problem in there. There are some Windows errors but I don't see they are likely to be to do with this issue:

Putting aside the raw fps numbers, what actual performance symptoms are you seeing in the game when this happens? Slow time passing, jerkiness when scrolling or zooming?

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Vic3/pdx_settings.json .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Vic3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.log

Well mainly:
-Huge lags when zooming in or out
-Lags seem to increase when camera is at europe (could also be related to fog of war somehow, ive only played one save (Belgium) so not sure if its about there being more things in europe or lack of fog of war. Could also be related to icons you see on the map on your territories such as building buildings etc.). So basically if i just move the map on east-west axis, once im on europe I get lags.
-If I am completely zoomed out to the paper map, the game runs very much faster (not laggy or choppy, days progress faster)
-GPU usage% is very low all the time, CPU usage is high most of the time (80%-95%), but even when the lag spikes happen it is usually not at 100%.
-When the game autosaves, it lags considerably, but this is not too unexpected imo.

Note about the logs: there is no exceptions log in the folder.

Those logs look normal. Can I get the pdx_settings.json file please? You'll have to rename it to end in .txt to upload it here.

I see the refresh rate is capped at 30 rather than 60, I guess you were doing a little experimentation? I assume that made no difference?

It is interesting that the problem occurs when you do things on the map, yet the GPU is barely ticking over. I don't really know what to make of that! And why is it affecting you and not, say, me (I have a GeForce 1060, a little lower than your 1070) or most other users?

I'm struggling to think of anything else we can do here. Please install and run the free utility Speccy. Send its output to a text file and attach that here, thanks.
