Victoria 3 Freezes My Computer Completely

Description​

While playing Victoria 3, my computer freezes completely after about 15-30 minutes. I tried to verify the files and play with a fresh start, but the issue persists. I have my Windows (Windows 11 Version 24H2 06 KB5063060), GPU, and other hardware updated. This issue only happens in Victoria 3, not any other PDX game or game.

Steps to reproduce​

I don't know how to reproduce this bug. I just played Victoria 3, and the computer freezes, and then I have to reset my computer.

set affinity to only the first half of your cpus, it will be fixed... then google 'victoria 3, avx-512' if you want to get more specific with tweaks

It might be unrelated but try installing the KB5056579 update, I managed to play +30years before going to sleep yesterday without the PC freezing after installing it.

I personally use Vulkan instead of dx, every other fix either doesn't work for me or requires to much effort.

I tried vulkan, it didn’t work for me, it made slower and made the freeze happen faster.

set affinity to only the first half of your cpus, it will be fixed... then google 'victoria 3, avx-512' if you want to get more specific with tweaks

My CPU is an i5 11400F, and it seems like it is supporting Intel SSE4.1, Intel SSE4.2, Intel AVX2, and Intel AVX-512.

If you have an AMD CPU, check for updated chipset drivers.

Definitely worth a shot - let me know if that does help you! Note that to test it you don't actually need to use Processor Lasoo, just Affinity in Task Manager (for testing purposes anyway).

Although I appreciate your workaround solution, I don't think it should be the only option for us gamers to play the game. Is there any plan for fixing it on the PDX side?

Part of the problem lies on PDX side (sort of) but mostly the problem is on Windows 11 side. I am honestly considering installing a linux environment on my computer through WSL and hope that WSL doesn’t use anything set by windows that is causing the issue.

And the crutch solves partially. I tested it. It either freezes the computer in a few minutes of playing the game as usual or it takes something like 2-3 hours of non-stop gameplay for it to freeze again.
Where before every single time, without removing some cores, the computer would freeze in a few minutes.

I installed this update "2025-04 x64 Windows 11, version 24H2 .NET Framework 3.5 ve 4.8.1 (KB5056579)", and it seems to work fine for now. I don't know if I will face the issue again. I will share it here when I encounter with the same issue.

I have an 7800x3d and am getting the same freeze consistently even after a fresh windows install so it's not limited to just intel

I don't think so, because I'm still facing the same thing, both the game and my computer freeze.

I've been havivng the same issue, only started once 1.9 came out, never happened before and no other game does it. Just a full complete system freeze, my only option is to hold down my power button. Nvidia divers have been updated, as well as the AMD chispet drivers

To 24H2 or 23H2? If you did a fresh windows install of 24H2 you are still installing the problem.
