Sorry, but I haven't heard of that one. Which operating system do you use? Do you have problems with other games that use the europa engine (Crusader Kings, Hearts of Iron 2 and its clones, Europa Universalis 2)? Are you sure you switched your computer to 16-bit colours?

I'm using an iMac with an Intel Core 2 Duo, 3.06 GHz and Mac OS 10.6.6. Although I can play games on Windows, I always choose to play them on the Mac platform. Also, I've never had to select colours as the iMac is already calibrated and the game doesn't offer the option to do so.

Just bought Europa Universalis Complete but haven't had a chance to use it yet.

Sorry, my (limited) experience with macs dates back to a time when they still had floppies. I'd try using windows as a base for the europa engine games. They are very old. EUIII should run run much more smoothly, though.

I just had the same problem. I've installed Vicky after a loooooong time, this time with Revolutions, patched to 2.01 + hotfix and then installed latest the VIP:R. I've even found a way to make it run on 1440x900 and everything works just fine until I click on the infrastructure view, then it just crashes to desktop

Just to mention, For the Glory (with MyMap+AGCEEP) and Arsenal of Democracy (with CORE) both work perfectly on my system.

And vanilla Ricky doesn't crash when the resolution is left at the default setting.

Okay, this is officially weird. My version runs fine in windowed mode, but I haven't increased the resolution. Have you tried running VIP:R on a lower resolution or in full-screen? And what is your OS?

Ricky works fine in the standard (?) 1280x1024 stretched in the full screen, but looks awful. It looks ok when hacked to 1440x900, and everything works except for that "slight" problem of crashing to desktop when clicking on the infrastructure view.

My OS is Win7 64-bit pro, native resolution 1440x900.

I think I've tried Ederon's windowed hack, but it didn't work, so I've used the GResChanger to make it work full screen on my native resolution.

I used Ederon's tool and it worked. Not sure if that's the problem, though. Would have been nice if V:R had offered a built-in resolution change. Anyway, are you sure you have the newest definitions? There was a version that didn't work with the updated V:R.

The latest settings that I have (just downloaded) are for Victoria 1.04 or Ricky 1.1, I'm not sure there are any other.

I've just tried it with settings for R 1.1. It opens a window and then crashes saying that it cannot initiate video. avi folder is NOT deleted/renamed, th "Strategy First" video starts, but then the game returns to a window and crashes saying that it cannot initiate video

Frankly, I don't know what to make of this. As far as I know VIP does not change the .exe and this really shouldn't happen. Did you try windowed mode and see whether that looks okay for you? You'll have to set colour depth to 16-Bit for it to work, though. If nothing else could you point me to the tool you are using? I only found one generic thing from 2005 that was obviously not intended for V:R.

What tool did you use?

I've tried Ederon's Pegasus editor and GResChanger.

The first one doesn't seem to work for windowed mode (nor that it has support for later versions of Vicky/Ricky) because it crashes as I've already mentioned, while the second one does work, but crashes on the infrastructure view.

Sorry for the confusion. It's been so long since I patched my game. I think I remember having to resort to hex-editing the .exe, although I'm not completely sure.

Did you try this approach? Unknown Entity has a guide for that that works with V:R 2.01, but only for windowed mode, not higher resolutions.

Hope that helps.

That is what my modified .exe has at the offset and it works in windowed mode except for the intro video. Doesn't do a thing about resolution, though.

Nope.

"Fatal error: could not initiate video" even though the Strategy First intro runs fine...

But it seems to work when I change the colour scheme to 16-bit. Now all I have to do is find a way to automatically switch to 16-bit when starting Victoria and that would be it :)

Yup, changing the colour scheme to 16-bit is necessary for all the old games. Only the reworked FtG, AoD and DH don't have this problem as far as I know.

Can't help you with that. It's the same with my copy. Hope this still helped a bit. Anyway, this is now officially the most active thread on this sub-forum ^^
