Victoria II - Japan
Chapter One Hundred-Eighty-Six - Invasion!
So the War had started. And Taro Okada was leading the unimaginatively named First Army in their naval invasion.
Not that there seemed to be anybody defending the island. No troops or defenses had been spotted so far. The men lowered the horses and cannons into the tenders and rowed towards the selected shores. It would be a lot easier to land if there was nobody shooting at them. Horses hated being shot out.
At the same time the Diplomats made sure that the Russian Empire was friendly with Japan. And not likely to get involved.
By the second day of the year the Province of Tainan had been invaded. It was only a question of time before the peasants, armed with hunting rifles and shotguns, were overwhelmed by the cavalry and the artillery.
The problem was the lack of supplies available on the island itself. As the ownership of the Port was being fought over no food or ammo was being shipped in. Soldiers were starving.
The First Fleet was ordered to set course to hunt down and destroy the nearest enemy ships.
Back on Tainan Taro Okada split his forces and sent the newly created Army north to occupy the northern province. He hoped smaller armies would be able to support themselves easier on what they could loot….er…buy from the local farmers and shop keepers.
The 2nd Army would also make sure that the Chinese did not land troops on the northern side of the island without a fight.
Back in the Capital the government increased spending in Defence Spending, Land Units, and Naval Units. It was war, after all, and the Liberals saw no reason to hold back.
By the 7th of January the 2nd Army had started the process of occupying the Province of Taibei.
In less than a week it looked like the Chinese were already losing their island and their war.
