Victoria II - Japan
Chapter Two Hundred-Eighteen - Slow And Steady

b6Zn8mPJ_o.jpg

The war in the Far East Asia wasn't the only one going on at the time.

On6sbIHa_o.jpg

There was the Egyptian war in Africa and the Afghan war in western Asia.

Back in Japan the Province of Fukuoka had completed a Factory for making Explosives. Which allowed the military to blow up even more enemy barriers, enemy defenses, and enemy orphanages.

W1fRt1Wl_o.jpg

With the battle over the Province of Zhaoqing was slowly being turned into a proper Japanese Province by the Second Home Island Army.

Back in Japan another Artillery unit had finally been trained and assembled. And was now heading toward Edo. A day later a Engineer unit was also finally assembled and marched off towards Edo.

q2qa7deQ_o.jpg

By September the Province of Zhanjiang was firmly under Japanese control. Which meant the First Home Island Army could move on.

5GqFfHhE_o.jpg

It would move past the Second Home Island Army to hit the next province to the northeast and defeat the enemy forces within it. The two armies could work together, keeping the enemy on the run, while capturing provinces as they moved.

Chapter Two Hundred-Nineteen - Third Victory

UgAAYczv_o.jpg

While the Japanese armies were hard at work trying to capture territory it did not go unnoticed that the enemy forces were marching to combine themselves into larger forces. It might be a good idea to bring in more reinforcements.

While the war continued the home islands continued to make themselves more powerful. For example the Fort in the provinces of Brunei and Api were upgraded.

xIihFnNf_o.jpg

At this point the First Home Island Army decided to go after Nanning.

RIodXQmZ_o.jpg

Then the army scout noticed the enemy forces to the north were trying to sneak into Zhanijang as the Japanese were trying to march west. So the First Home Island Army turned north.

But the enemy forces in the Capital tried to sneak in now that the Japanese were heading north. So the First Home Island Army came to a halt and just waited to see what the enemy armies would do.

As this happened a new Artillery unit was fully trained, equipped, and ordered to Edo.

By the end of September the Province of Zhaoqing was firmly under the Empire's control.

1SQnMe7p_o.jpg

With the Second Home Island Army heading northeast to attack the bearest enemym which also protected the flank the First Home Island Army, they headed north.

5HaQiOZZ_o.jpg

The scouts noticed the enemy was moving westwards so the First HIA, because I am getting sick of writting out the whole name, switched direction again.

Near the end of September another Fort was upgraded in the Province of Yokohama.

Also anther factory, not owned by Japan, was seized by the government.

UZOTuCoZ_o.jpg

Then the Battle of Canton started as the Second HIA slammed into the enemy army to the east. The enemy had no cannon nor mounted forces.

The First Fleet moved at full steam. Not though to get reinforcements. But because enemy ships had been spotted out at sea.

And railroads in Taibei and Tainan were built. No doubt the natives were in awe of Japanese technology. Not that any of them were allowed to ride it. But they were allowed to look at it.

The Fort in the Province of Hakodate was also updated.

hAPgzlOf_o.jpg

Then, in October, the Battle of Canton came to an end. The enemy lost over twenty-two thousand soldiers. While the Japanese lost over four thousand.

And so there was a third victory. Yet the gathering foes were like thunder clouds in the sky. Could THEY be defeated in such numbers?

Chapter Two Hundred-Twenty - The Situation

w1j6lF3A_o.jpg

"Those Kids Have Our Sandwiches Sir!"

The First Home Island Army had started the occupation of the Province of Nanning.

yQ3AN7n9_o.jpg

The enemy Capital would soon belong to the Japanese. Hopefully. It was kind of neck deep in enemy territory. There was at least six Gunangxi armies in the area. And that didn't even count the enemy allies roaming the landscape.

uEfi7cg8_o.jpg

The Fourth Home Island Army was told to march west. So to make it easier to be picked up when the First Fleet arrived.

xL3dqXla_o.jpg

And once again the Russian Empire was given gifts and praise to keep it friendly towards Japan. And out of the war.

As the First Fleet headed back to Japan it spotted a lone enemy ship.

Next victim? Bwahahahahahahahahaha!

Chapter Two Hundred-Twenty-One - Sea Battle!

LIDOfbaO_o.jpg

As the forces in Edo were ordered to march westwards, so as to be easier to be picked up by the First Fleet, the government was worried about leaving the Capital open to attack.

6DIgCkj1_o.jpg

So the Third Home Island Army was ordered south to guard Edo and protect the rich people from harm.

IBiEU2Bb_o.jpg

By the 10th of October the enemy fleet....well...ship was spotted. It was a transport ship. A harmless ship. Unarmed and maybe full of soldiers. Fools! Of course the First Fleet engaged them.

dGVNzDCj_o.jpg

Of course they were defeated. Their transport were blasted to pieces, sending the crew and passangers into the waters, to drown or be eaten by sharks by the light of the burning wreckage. The Japanese Marines used their rifles to shoot any enemy sailors who tried to climb onto the Japanese warships. BWUHAHAHAHA! Ahem. And so the Battle of Paracel Islands was a great victory.

Of course the First Fleet was then ordered to the home islands to pick up another army.

While the government made a big deal of the one sided victory it watched what was happening in Asia with some...worry.

fVAbGR3i_o.jpg

One army was trying to occupy the Province of Canton. And another was going after Nanning. The Capital of the main enemy.

0u6tfAW6_o.jpg

But there was a problem brewing on the main land. There were now over a hundred and seventy-eight enemy soldiers in the region.

1nwnGjd2_o.jpg

And about 24 of them were heading towards Zhanjiang. No doubt to try to free the Province. Hopeful they could be stopped before that. But what about all the other enemy soldiers? And how many more would soon arrive?

tDoVyYdJ_o.jpg

Japan was still winning. But slowly. Maybe too slowly?

Things are going well for the Liberals in the war, shame they can't have that success domestically...

Chapter Two Hundred-Twenty-Two - Going South

TnABMNUD_o.jpg

The situation in the Asian War was not going well. As the Americans might say it was 'Going South'.

BM1Ck0wc_o.jpg

There were a lot of enemy armies. And they were all heading towards the coast to free the occupied provinces. It was so unfair.

1mfFP2ru_o.jpg

Back at the home islands a foreign business was seized. Which seemed weird.

l99h95Ad_o.jpg

Then the enemy entered the Province of Zhanjiang. They were trying to free that area. How dare they!

While this was happening the provinces of Osaka and Kagoshima upgraded their Forts. And a new warship was built in Edo and ordered to move to Kagoshima. It might arrive on time to join the First Fleet.

i9UZNNvg_o.jpg

Then there was a report of enemy forces pouring into the Province of Zhaoqing. This was bad. This was very bad. They were cutting the Japanese forces into two.

And the rest of the enemy was heading south to free Hainan. Bad times. Bad time.

No foreign business is going to set up shop in Japan considering the means of production are seized on an almost annual basis.

Chapter Two Hundred-Twenty-Three - Problems?

D8e1ENLb_o.jpg

By the 28th of October the First Fleet had arrived at the Port of Kagoshima. And now had to wait for the Fourth Home Island Army of over thirty-six thousand Japanese soldiers to arrive.

There was also news from the Province of Okinawa. They had updated their Fort.

GVY4vjMr_o.jpg

Then there was bad news from the Front. Enemy troops had crossed the water and had landed in Hainan.

Then there was good news. Nanning had been taken! And...nothing happened. Even with their Capital now occupied the enemy and their allies refused to give up! How rude!

LBHfquzS_o.jpg

At least it allowed the First Home Island Army to move south. Maybe they could cut the enemy forces in half?

By now the Fourth Home Island Army was loaded into the Transports of the First Fleet.

lzyqUQQQ_o.jpg

Which was ordered to delivery them to the Front. Hopefully it got there in time.

That big army in Shanzhou might be the reason why they don't want to surrender...

True. But that big army is a series of small armies going in all kinds of directions. If I can catch them piece by piece I could still win. But they seem to be staying together...so...not betting on it. :D

Chapter Two Hundred-Twenty-Four - Maybe Too Many Foes?

o4LOiDfS_o.jpg

The Japanese government was a tad confused. They had taken the Capital of Guangxi yet the enemy had not given up and begged the Japanese to take their stuff. In fact Guangxi, Dai Nam, Siam, and Qinghai seemed to be willing to keep fighting!

O778fp0N_o.jpg

Anyway the First Home Island Army was marching to hit the enemy forces to the southeast. the last months of 1890 were going to be a interesting.

Eyh900Xr_o.jpg

Back in Japan another foreign business was seized. Also the Province of Amari had updated their Fort.

xKPexmK6_o.jpg

Also it was decided to increase the size of the Army. The Navy were still working on expanding their force. There was also a debate about mobilizing the populace but that was frowned upon. But...it was kept on the table.

JAeSSMcN_o.jpg

By the 15th of September Canton had finally fallen to the the Second Home Island Army. Now it was ordered to hit the enemy to the south west.

So two battles started.

X4LUQpYM_o.jpg

One in Zhanjiang. Where the Japanese forces found, to their shock, a enemy army had been moving through the province that was being occupied by another army. The First Army refused to back down. Over thirty-six Japanese soldiers attacked over one hundred sixty-nine thousand Chinese troops.

dW4KRnxh_o.jpg

Then there was the Battle in Zhaoqing which was a slightly more one-sided one. Over thirty-three thousand Japanese soldiers against around twenty thousand Chinese troops. Who were not very good against artillery.

They're used to foreign investors begging them to take their stuff, so that explains it.

Chapter Two Hundred-Twenty-Five - Minor Battles

JBUw0Dy0_o.jpg

A Major Discovery was discovered on the 1st of December. The Imperial Japanese Navy now had enemy plotting cards.

F1KJXO4U_o.jpg

The cards had the pictures of enemy ship classes. It also had information about the ship's performance. Allowed the crews to know which ship to shoot at and so on. A simple idea. But a good one. And they could use the plotting cards to play, well, card games.

zNQwVyDq_o.jpg

On the same day the Battle for Zhaoqing came to an end with a victory. Another one-sided victory for the Japanese! They lost over one thousand four hundred men. Mostly infantry. While the enemy lost over twenty-one thousand men. A mixture of infantry and cavalry. Another victory!

DOPkW0L9_o.jpg

The Second Home Island Army was sent off to retake Canton. Seems enemy forces were trying to take it back.

HD6AFZ1A_o.jpg

The Fourth Home Island Army was also being unloaded onto the Island of Hainan. They would have to rush right into combat with the enemy forces trying to take Hainan.

But there was a problem. Enemy forces was trying to take back Nanning. On the other hand there was good news from home. The Province of Utsunomiya had updated their railroad. Now it was louder and more powerful. And the engineers dressed up like clowns to scare off the hobos.

vZ3ZkY8k_o.jpg

On the 6th of December the Battle of Canton had started. It looked like the enemy had no cavalry or artillery. And were outnumbered.

By the 10th enemy forces had marched into Zhaoqing and were trying to free it also. The enemy were like flies - they were all over the place!

NbQmnvXX_o.jpg

A few days later the Battle of Hainan had started. The enemy had failed to stop the Japanese forces from landing. The enemy, while outnumbered, did have cavalry while the Japanese had artillery. Which would prove King of the Battlefield?

And the war continued.

I think the enemy has far too many soldiers for Japan to win the war... (that battle where the enemy has 152 regiments)

Chapter Two Hundred-Twenty-Six - Victories!

3dwb1CP4_o.jpg

The news from Asia was good on the 18th of December.

n2PIpcVI_o.jpg

Another victory! This time at the Battle for Canton. Around two thousand Japanese soldiers had died wipping out the enemy forces of about seventeen thousand.

HD9MPzHs_o.jpg

At the same time the First Fleet was ordered to pick up the Formosa Guard. They were close and could be brought in as reinforcements.

Gj2ejoeF_o.jpg

With Canton safe once again the Second Home Island Army was ordered to return to Zhaoqing to save it! Though there were a LOT of enemy soldiers in the nearby provinces.

3UXbIB4i_o.jpg

And within a few days the Fourth Home Island Army wiped out the enemy forces in Hainan. At the lost of over two thousand soldiers.

v6RafA1l_o.jpg

And the Japanese forces now had to free the Province of Hainan. They needed to take the port to bring in the supplies needed to keep their men fed and their weapons loaded. Though there seemed to be enough on the island for them at the moment.

Soon a dark cloud would eclipse the glory of the early victories...
