Got the exact same issue
Just bought the game
Can't play it,

If i try to change graphic settings, game crash
If i try to launch game, game crashes

As he did there, i verified the game files And tried to re instal
No change

@Sperdo If the issue occurred after updating to 1.3.5 (and the game has worked before) could you please try to purge/delete the Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria 3 folder (so that the game can rebuild the cache)?
Please back up the saves or mods that you want to keep before doing that.
Let us know if that helps!

Tried it right now and it didn't help. But I found out game doesn't crash if launched from Victoria3.exe, so I can still play the game after all, but every launch from Steam results in instant crash in Main Menu.

Almost 2 months since, I haven't been able to successfully launch a game via Steam, despite the fact that there was 2 updates for Vic3 launcher. But victoria3.exe works perfectly fine, because it launches the game directly so I guess problem could be with the launcher itself.

Please try this:

- uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows "Apps and features" utility, if still present.

Delete the following folders if still present:

- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

- exit the Steam app entirely
- run steam.exe as the Windows Admin user

- run the game from the PLAY button in Steam

IF that doesn't help, in this folder are some .log files:
C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
Please attach them here.
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

Unfortunately that didn't help either, there is some logs for my last 3 attempts to launch the game

No visible issue in those files. But there would have been other logs in that folder?

Regardless though, it is hard to see why running the game from the launcher would cause it to crash, as the launcher has actually been unloaded by the time you get into the game.

Do those crashes generate game crash files, including exceptions.log ?

What worked for me what removing all the files myself.. uninstall vic3 then you go into docoments and remove vic3 files. Then go in %appdata% and find the files in local and roaming. OHH yeah and remove laucher v2 in remove programs. Also remember to remove vic 3 in steam common folder .. then i restarted my pc.. and re indstalled and hit play and installed v2 when hitting play in steam! that worked for me after trying everything else i have read about :)

It's my guess because victoria3.exe works perfectly fine.
Tried uninstalling all game files as user above but that didn't work.

Here's crash files

Please do a full clean re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-Vic3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Victoria3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/Victoria3 folders - In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam Victoria3 or Documents Victoria3 locations, before installing again.
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add Victoria3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.

THEN unload GeForce experience if running. Right click on Victoria3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, cap refresh rate at 60.

If those don't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Vic33/pdx_settings.json .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/Vic3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.log

None of that helped but I turned off Steam Cloud and seems like the game works fine now, so I guess problem sovled

Do you have any Vic3 saves in the Steam cloud?

If so it is possible one of those is so corrupt it crashes the game!
