Short summary of your issue
CTD after different period of time

Game Version
1.0.5 (Vanilla)

What OS are you playing on?
Windows 10

Do you have mods enabled?
No

Have you tried verifying your game files?
Yes

How much "pain" is this causing you?
10

Please explain the issue you experienced in the most condensed way possible
The game always crashes after different time with the same reasons.
The reasons are obvious from the error.log:

[gfx_dx11_fence.cpp:32]: D3D error: hr returned: The GPU device instance has been suspended. Use GetDeviceRemovedReason to determine the appropriate action
[gfx_dx11_master_context.cpp:744]: Failed creating fence

Please explain how to reproduce the issue
The problem seems to occur in general and not depending on anything specific. I guess.

Is there anything else you think could help us identify/replicate the issue?
Hardware specs:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700X Eight-Core Processor 3.70 GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 (with newest driver version 526.47)
RAM: 32 GB
OS: Windows 10 (with actual updates)
DirectX-Version: 12 (FL 12.1)

- The temperature of the CPU and GPU does not exceed 60 degrees Celsius because water cooling is installed.

- I have already uninstalled and cleanly reinstalled the graphics card drivers several times using the DDU software. Without improvement.
- In other games like HoI IV, CK3 or CoD:MW2 I have no problems at all. This only occurs with Victoria 3.

If more info is needed, I will be happy to supply it.
Please help me! Gaming is my safespace and I'm really into the game, but these CTDs make the game unplayable for me. It frustrates me and makes me very sad.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have attached a save game
No

Right click on victoria3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, refresh rate 60.

Does that help?

Hello AndrewT,
Thank you very much for the advice. I have made all the settings as far as you recommended. Unfortunately without success.
A further analysis on my system showed that the crash of the game obviously has something to do with the entries in the Windows Eventlog:

- "The description for Event ID 0 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found".
- "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered"

Of course I have already googled these messages and found many entries.
I have already done the following:
- In Power Options I changed plan settings in the "High performance plan".
- Turned Off the PCI Express Link State Power Management
- Uninstalled the Nvidia Driver via DDU and reinstalled them several times
- Changed the TdrDelay in the registry
- Did a complete reinstall of my Windows OS
- Took out the Graphics Card and Put it back in

I am really desperate because I have absolutely no idea what else could be wrong and how to fix it.

I continue to ask for help!

Greetings

Seems like an nVidia driver or hardwar eproblem then. Please try this:

- uninstall your nVidia driver and all other nVidia software
- reboot
- install late November 2022 https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
- reboot again
- unload GeForce Experience if running

Now try the game again - any better?

I can't imagine a hardware problem, since other games work without CTD without any problems.

I have tried the following (again):

- uninstalled nVidia driver and all other nVidia software via DDU
- rebooted
- installed nVidia driver 526.98 ( November 16, 2022) WITHOUT GeForce Experience
- rebooted again

Nothing chanced. Still crashing after a few minutes :(

Are you still getting those nVidia driver errors you mentioned before?
