Please can a Paradox member of staff address this issue directly?

Totally unacceptable for this game to just not work like this, identical CK3 issue that was fixed with a beta hotfix relatively quickly. A dumb AVX emulator workaround is not an acceptable solution.

All other paradox games work fine on my machine (I had the same issue with CK3 Iberia before hotfix)

Is a fix being worked on? How many 1000s of people have this issue but just don't say anything in comments, forums, reddit etc.

I also didn't buy on Steam so no chance of a refund. Another shocking launch, with a half-finished game, that doesn't even work for some, punishing Paradox fans for buying the game early (basically early access at this point) and not waiting about 12-18 months and the first big DLC.
I don't think the v3 staff are in any hurry

I played Victoria 3 for 70 hours and now I suddenly also get this message. I did verify the gamefiles, I installed the Visual C++ Restributable and also the .NET Framework. I am also a youtuber and now I can't continue my let's play because of this. This is going to be a big pain also financially :(

I did do a windows update yesterday so that must have done something right?

I really hope that there is a moderator out there that can help us out.

I just got the game running by launching it from the Victoria3/binaries folder and just run it by the victoria3.exe. Pheeuuww

Suddenly got this error today. Already played for 30 hours without any problems - now this.

My setup is on Ubuntu, played through the native linux version, but I have tested forcing the use of proton with the windows version and it gives a similiar error.
For some reason my error page has more details though:

Code:
ERROR: ld.so: object '/home/chris/.steam/debian-installation/ubuntu12_32/gameoverlayrenderer.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded (wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32): ignored.

Can you give this a go and see if it works?

1. Exit the Steam app entirely
2. Uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows "Apps and features" utility, if still present.

Delete the following folders if still present:

- C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

3 Run steam.exe as the Windows Admin user
4. Run the game from the PLAY button in Steam
This worked for me. Thank you so much!

Does not work for me on 1.03 or 1.04

Does not work when launching victoria3.exe from binaries

Does not work before the launch updates or after

Any update @TinyWiking or anyone @Paradox?

so two points here, I have the same error but I didn't start with it. I was able to play the game in the beginning with only the irritation of it crashing about an hour or so into the game(still working on that issue) I read that it might be because I have an outdated driver which was true, so I went into NVIDEA and updated my driver to the Version 526.47. After updating to that driver that's when I started experiencing the error. Unfortunately I didn't save the previous driver I was on so i cant roll back to it but maybe someone else can and see if that works for you.

MY WORK AROUND FOR THIS, (AND THIS IS WHY THIS IS SO STRANGE) I'm still able to play the game. Go in your steamapp folder and look through your Vic 3 folder > binaries and you should see victoria3.exe, right click and run as administrator. It bypassed the launcher and error message and I went straight into a game, until I ran into the issue I mentioned above. Hopefully Paradox will fix this but this is a work around

Can you attach a DxDiag please?
  1. Click the Windows key (Start) button, type Run and press Enter.
  2. In the pop-up window, enter dxdiag and press Enter.
  3. The DirectX Diagnostic Tool will load. If there is a pop-up window asking about digital driver signing; click the answer for your machine.
  4. Click Save all information, then Save as.
  5. Click on Save (the file should be saved to your desktop as dxdiag.txt).
  6. Exit the DirectX Diagnostic tool.
  7. Attach this file here
Worth noting is that in your previous post you complained about the game using AVX which leads me to believe you have a processor that doesn't support this. The game requires AVX supported CPUs (as is evident in the requirements section for the game) and as far as I'm aware there are no plans to remove this.

Here is the Dxdiag data. Have the same problem

Why is there no option, Is it not possible to turn the AVX on or off?

Thank you kindly for the file! Your processor was discontinued in 2009, one or two years before Intel started with AVX so your processor will not be able to run Victoria 3. AVX is baked into the game (I think, I'm not a developer but this is my understanding) hence it's not possible to turn it off.

Ok, this is really bad for me.

So this worked for me but only for 1 time. The next day I wanted to continue it gave the same error again. So what is going on here? Does the launcher make a folder it should not make after launching it for the 2nd time?

I did basically every "fix" there is but none of them worked except this one

I did the above as well as deleting - C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Roaming/Paradox-Launcher-v2
now it launches :) thanks

I tried this for the 3rd time since it does work initially. But when restarting the PC I get the same problem again. So I wonder what is going on here? Any ideas?

Guys, who knows about avx fix in CK3, do they care about it and change something? I just want to try the game, but unfortunatelly my i5 is old enough
CK3 had a check for AVX included by accident.

Vic3 has always had AVX as a requirement. It was not an accident. I’m afraid you’re out of luck and should get a refund if you bought the game.
