Quite an interesting style you are using here, Zebedee. And a very thorough overview of the German military machine that you are surely about to clobber Europe with. Good luck and write on! :D

Thanks Lennox.

Would Armeegruppe better than Armee? Armee was around 4 - 8 divisions, with an Armeegruppe being two or three adjacent Armees?

Yeah, that makes sense, if you need listings for historical commands I can help out, just PM me. However, stick to fluidity and not rigidness because that's more historical than formations not breaking up. Also, your attached brigade infantry might be slowing down your normal troopers.

The Heydrich/Canaris relationship is not historical. Canaris loathed Heydrich. But British Intelligence had a healthy respect for Heydrich and arranged his assassination. (But y'all know that).

Actually... when Heydrich began his career as a cadet in the Reichsmarine (in the 20s), he became a good friend of the Canaris family, due to him and Frau Canaris both playing the same instrument (violin?) and he would often visit the Canaris home. Heydrich had some problems in the service due to his odd personality, but the Admiral took him under his wings and helped on his naval career. Then it all came to naught after Heydrich broke an engagement, which was considered shameful among the Reichsmarine officers, and got booted. Even then he would not be shunned by the Canarises.

As far as I understand, Heydrich was at least initially very grateful and appreciative of the Admiral, although it is possible that politics later drove a wedge between them - but originally they were good friends, a father/son like relationship.

The Yogi - I read a book on Canaris by Hohne (sp?) which mentioned this. It's one of the reasons I decided to try and portray an intelligence system which was actually functioning.

The split seems to have come over Heydrich's activities in Russia (enough said? forum rules et al.) although it does seem that Canaris and Heydrich were both building up dossiers on each other from the start of Heydrich's reign in the SD.

Canaris called Heydrich "The most brutal man I have ever met" and Gisevius seems to have believed that the loathing was real. I've even seen speculation that, with Canaris' record of passing information over to the allies, the death of Heydrich seemed very fortuitous...

*I think that the Kesselrings in the game are both the same man....
**Yes, there are two 4 Panzer-Divisions.[/I]
true, the Kesselrings are the same person. BTW, other authors have done the same! :)

also, just rename the second 4th Panzer to the 5th Panzer... things like this happen all the time... :D {in game, click on "II. Panzergruppe", click on 4 Panzer-Division, click on the name of 4 Panzer-Division to rename it, and change the 4 to a 5...}

very true. Zebedee, please consider that the game mechanics move all units in a "group" [of divisions, etc.] at the speed of the slowest unit in that group...

that said, gladly subscribes.

Those German troops resting during exercises on the Polish border look dead...

Anyways, great AAR, so far! No flaws that I can find at all!

Thanks for comments :) I like the picture of the troops taking a rest, but I was a little worried about posting some of the pics large because of, erm, certain details becoming too large. (I really need to tidy up this AAR, pics are all shapes and sizes, headings in text ought to be there etc...)

Hmm guess I need to write up my notes for next update. HoI2 been taking up my time as has doing some research on Manchuoko Navy and all things Manchu. Much prefer brigades to intrinsic specialist units :)

Which leads me to the listings... things are very slow when you put an artillery brigade in with your troops but I don't mind too much as if I need speed I'll just throw out the engineers or the vanilla infantry on their own. The 12 division unit is the basic arrangement but I split them up regularly for other purposes, especially to spread around the XP.

Got some unexpected free time so will try to get update written up sometime tonight/tomorrow.

Been enjoying this so far. It's nice to see a new AAR for HOI. :)

Just a quick RL aside because of this pilot’s service record. The following info has been taken from feldgrau.com. “The Knight's Cross with Golden Oakleaves, Swords and Diamonds was the highest single grade of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, and was awarded only once during WWII - an exception to the rule for this award which was only to be awarded 12 times once WWII ended. It was awarded to Hans Ulrich Rudel in honor of his unrivaled heroism as a Luftwaffe Stuka pilot. Rudel was responsible for the destruction of 530 Soviet tanks, enough tanks for five complete Soviet Tank Corps! He also destroyed 150 anti-aircraft and anti-tank positions, 800 motor vehicles, the Soviet Battleship Marat, a Soviet Cruiser, a Soviet Destroyer, 70 Soviet landing craft, and numerous bridges and bunkers. He also heavily damaged another Soviet Battleship, the October Revolution. Rudel flew 2,530 combat missions, claimed 11 air victories in his Stuka, and was shot down 30 times.”

Good God!
