OK I've fired up a 2.1 IGC playing as Vinland (USA) I didn't get to play for long because I got called which leads to one technical observation. When I restarted I had to click on the shield for the USA for the saved game to load. I've played with minors in IGC 2.0k and that wasn't the case.

I also notice that the colonization costs seem high given that I'm colonizing provinces right next door. Is that by design?

Finally I experienced one crash to desktop in the first five years of play. I usually don't experience crashes until much later in the game. It's still too early to say if it was a fluke or not.

Finally the addition of the Vinland premise is a great idea and one I look forward to playing... over and over and over again. Thanks Doomie! :D

I would not be surprised if there are still some problems with the option. Just let me know. :)

Nope, so far those are the only technical/design issues I've seen with it. The reload process is no biggie. The colonization costs might not be that big a deal either since Vinland does get an explorer, a conquistador, 12k worth of troops, and a starting location from which they can beat Spain to the Aztecs. :D (I'm going to have to test that theory pretty soon....) I've also only had the one crash. Maybe patch 1.09 will remove whatever crashbug caused the early crash too.

Unfortunately I don't think I can change the colonization costs. Playing the USA is challenging that way. On the other hand you are unthreatened by power-hungry neighbors.

True. That's why I asked if it was by design. It still seems logically flawed to have to pay "trans-atlantic rates" to send a colonist 100 miles.

I;ve noticed a couple of other things playing a few years at a time while waiting for the NA version of 1.09:

1)Denmark always seems to be willing to give up her maps on the second request if I have an alliance and RM. and

2)The European CoT's all cost 16d to send a merchant, except for Venice! Once I have access to Venice it only costs 4d (for Venice). Of course Venice is also my "home" CoT at the outset.

There may not be a workaround possible without the use of house rules. Of course it may also be a case of anomalies which cancel each other out.

I played a quick game earlier (to about 1540 or so), had no problem taking out the Aztecs. :D (Ottar Gramse is the new Scourge of the Aztecs!) Once you get the Aztec provinces, it makes it a lot easier.. before that, you're really pressed for cash. I had my maximum allotment of loans out when I finished with Aztecs, was able to pay them off with their gold provinces. :)

Heh. I went from playing on normal to very easy simply to have the cash. In my 1.08 experiments it was far from a sure thing because I was hard pressed to raise a big enough army. Of course two gold mine provinces should solve alot of problems now. :D
