Okay, I have (what appears to be) a serious problem here.

I was modding EU2 as always last night, and started the game to see if my changes had successfully taken effect... only to find the second loading screen freeze and when I pressed CTRL + ALT + DEL, I got an error message saying I was out of Virtual Memory.

This worries me as it's never happened before. I'd been running the PC most of the day - but this is still not something I've come across in years - and I have 512MB memory (assuming that makes a difference to virtual memory somehow?) and yet I got this message and was slightly shocked.

So I rebooted the PC this morning... same problem. Twice, in fact.

I pressed CTRL + ALT + DEL again to see my system screen and the equalizer was not existent, meaning I had plenty of memory life... I started the game and got to the shield select screen and it was a little equalizer, so I still had plenty of memory left.

I try and load the game and look at the screen again... it's on overload and it freezes and then gives me that message again...

What the hell is wrong? I've never had this problem here (well, on this PC) and I certainly run games far more demanding that EU2 alright.

I don't know why this has happened... can anyone please help me?

Thanks,
James

Although it does not solve the underlying problem, you could try increasing the virtual memory and see if that fixes it or not. To do that you go to system properties, advanced, and then virtual memory and you can see what is going on there. But I don't suppose the problem is virtual memory at all.

As odd as it sounds I suppose you exceeded some internal limit EU2 has.

Therefore, try undoing whatever it was you did between the last time it worked, and the first time you recieved the message.

Yeah that was the first thing I did mate, thanks.

I don't know what I've done that's so bad though lol, I'll try the game again shortly.

Just can't think what it would be...

Right... this is really annoying now.

I tried again. Same thing, loads fine, choose a country, the cursor freezes and I hear loading but nothing ever happens.

I did CTRL + ALT + DEL again... 100% CPU usage and memory usage was just below full as well... that shouldn't happen.

Out of interest, I tried Victoria (a game far more technically demanding on the system) and it works fine. It appears to be an EU2 problem, seen as I'm playing music, which I couldn't do if my VM was THAT low.

Thanks for your help, but... any more ideas? I think it's an EU2 specific problem.

It is not an EU2 problem it is a "Your mod" problem. ;)

And since we do not support user made mods, I cannot really help.

However it is clear what ever you did you cause a memory leak some how.

My advice is to completely remove EU2 from your system following the manual uninstal instructions in the 4th post of the self help sticky thread, then a fresh install from CD 1.08 patch and the latest beta if you wish.
