Armageddon will not start in vista. Any fixes?
Probably, what do you mean by it won't start? At what point does it crash or stop working?

The first thing you need to do, with any Paradox game, is to rename the avi folder to avi.old(or anything besides avi). This will solve quite a few problems but we need more info on your specific problem.

On initial startup. Initializing globals.

Error:(unknown Type in NavalDivision)'convoyattack = 14 Line = 24 file = db\units\divisions\battleship.txt

Have you any mod installed or have you changed anything in the db-folder yourself?
Check the compability filter in the Armageddon-folder. If you have stuff there it may cause crashes.

(I am running Arma on Vista and has no problems at all.)

Just got this computer. Not familiar with it at all. No mods new install. Downloaded 1.3 and installed. Tried to run. How do I access folders in vista? I cant seem to figure out how to get into a programs components to change the avi file. On xp you just went to my computer and kept clicking into the folders until you got to a programs "guts". on Vista I can not seem to navigate that far. I end up starting armageddon which then crashes.

You have installed the wrong patch.

Uninstall the game, see sticky how to do it.

The latest patch for Armageddon is 1.2

Do you have Anthology or GG version?

anthology

Use the patch here

Since Arma is a completely separate game with the Anthology you have to make sure the patch goes to the correct folder. The default is Paradox Interactive\Doomsday\Armageddon you will want just Paradox Interactive\Armageddon for the patch path.

That did it. Thanks all.

Unless it was some odd hardware problem, I don't get why it would crash on Vista, because I've run it on my laptop - which has Vista and I only had the "sparkling ships" issue. It still ran though....I'd really just like to add a thought though. Vista sucks. That's your problem. :D

No lie there.

Vista was close to the most money I've ever thrown away at once.

After a week I downgraded back to XP Professional.

Though I should note the 'sparkling ships' is an Armageddon problem, not Vista.

I realize that. I fixed it by swapping palette and skins files from DD to the Armageddon files and replacing the Armageddon ones with the DD ones. The crashing COULD be a Vista problem. That's all I was trying to hint at. I merely mentioned the sparkling ship phenomenon to give reference to my own issues with Vista (although I later learned that it did the same thing on XP). Come to think of it though, it seems like when I would be about 1945 or later in the game and I'd save and quit, my computer would crash instead of taking me to the main menu. That was probably a result of my laptop overheating and being run for a few hours intensively. I WAS, however, able to access and enjoy the game. Whatever it does after I save and am through for the day doesn't really bother me.
