The Rome Strategy guide states that Aristocratic Republics give a 1% increase to character loyalty per month provided the national ideas are all selected from the appropriate categories. In game the actual increase is 0.01% per month, i.e. a useless bonus of 1.2% per decade.

In game Aristocratic Republics are fairly useless, then. On the other hand, a loyalty bonus of 1%/month makes them by far the easiest to play -- no more civil wars. Which is correct? 0.01% is pointless but 1% seems unbalancing.

Thanks,

0.01% is correct. It is not a huge bonus, but then, many of the bonuses for choosing the right ideas are small and in particular those that affect every single member of the court all the time provide the least individual bonus.

dduff442, it is still the best form of republic if you are intending to be using two civic ideas. One should not always be choosing government type because of its bonus, though that is often the case.
