Another update

I've reinstalled Windows XP, and, in vanilla form, it seems to work.

I did think my system got porked somehow...C++ runtimes I suspect, or .NET Framework...so many different versions.

Anyway. it's working
Glad to see things worked out. :)

I was having basically the exact same problem when I reinstalled Rome after a long time of not playing it (finally got around to picking up VV)

Simple fix for me: right clicking the launcher shortcut and telling it to run as administrator (I also use Vista and was getting the unhelp runtime error message that the OP posted).

This finally got me past the loading screen. Cheers if this helps anyone.

yes i had the same prb on my other pc (desktop): it CTD after the loader.

The prb showed only after i had intalled VV, 1.3 was running fine.
Furtunaly the vs2005-c++ redist fixe the prb, that pc had only 2008-c++ redist
Funny that most people who have this prb have visual studio installed.

Now i can play the game but there a catch... it crash on exit!!

The laptop got vs6.0 to vs2008 installed, never crashed on startup because it got vs2005 i guess; but it crash when i close the game. Althougth that only a minor anoyance because i can still play the game no prb.
Still it's anoying.

It seems to be a known issue, the crash on exit. I don't mind that so much, as I get back to the desktop and it's only on exit.

Would still like to see it fixed though.

wouldn't be to bad if it weren't for the whole cursed pc to freeze up sometimes( on exit or while playing).
i'm reduce to play on the laptop at least it never freeze but man, pushing the pause button is kinda pain: fn+f12

edit: yay to me! i've bought a usb keyboard for my laptop no more fn+f12!!
