It looks to me that i can't modify localization files without having the game crashing/not loading. Has this been experienced by others or am I totally wrong? I modified some files to add a culture group but even though they look correct the game won't load/won't recognize the files.

If you mod a localisation file in Excel you have to make sure you keep it in CSV format. When you try to save, you get a box saying:

Click YES. The localisation files have to remain in CSV.

this was actually the problem, thanks. Some files can be text (the ones in the common folder i think) while those in the localization folder must be csv.

stupid question... can someone tell me how to convert a .txt file to a .csv file? Is there some type of converter within MS Office? thanks.

its easier to open the csv-file with any text-editor. most modders do so...

I just use TextPad for all of my text editing, including CSV files. It doesn't make the layout as pretty as Excel, but it avoids any encoding issues.

i modified some .csv files using notepad and saved them as .txt... i converted them back with openoffice. Then i switched to MS Office and all of them are back to .txt and seemingly there is no way to convert them back to .csv:confused:.

I'd like to avoid having to reinstall everything as my internet connection sucks at the moment...
