As King of Ireland, I married the Countess of Loon (in the HRE). Eventually we had a son, and she died not long after. My son inherited the county of Loon, moved there, and he has now turned 6 years old. I would like to educate him, but he refuses. Why? "Child would be hostage in a foreign power (-----)" Possibly working as designed, but at least in this instance it seems rather silly.

The AI picked a pretty good guardian for him, but he seems likely to turn Dutch.

Edit: He did turn Dutch, and then had a Dutch son. Regrettably, I was forced to assassinate both of them.

That sounds like pretty good design. Is there a casus belli to 'free him?' This would be really nice, for the current gambit of Casus Belli are quite lacking for someone who just wants to invade a foreign country and kill their soldiers :)

Do you not like the Dutch? I had my line of Ua Briain kings eventually become Basque. I didn't go murdering my kin just because the inherited too much of their mother's culture. 2 kings in a row were Basque, then 2 Saxon, and slowly I think I am breeding them back to being Irish, but I certainly didn't think to murder them because of it.

I probably shouldn't have, because my next son was completely evil. Luckily he fell asleep in the Lord at age 33.

But from my (more powerful, head of house) perspective, it was actually he who was being held hostage in a foreign power. I'm no history buff but I don't know if it would have worked that way in real life.
