Not entirely sure. Cant recall if THIS game has had issues running on such a setup, at least for other players.
It could well be the case, but first Id suggest you add an exception rule to any AV/FW s/w you have running.
Also do you have XP? Cause a few people are having similar issues with this... though not everyone has XP, XP is not "officially" supported.

One last thing is trying to run the game directly from its EXE rather than through steam.

Oh and if you get the chance upload a DXdiag.txt of your system.

Ill leave this thread here as you havent registered your game, but if you register it you may find a solution in one of the threads contained therein.

I recall seeing another thread similar to this one about someone saying it took 2 minutes to get to the splash screen, aka intro vids.

Also I will comments I've noticed this slow down as well. The game use to load nearly instantly in 1.2 and prior. Since 1.2.1 and even 1.2.2 the game doesn't load instantly anymore for me. It takes about 10 seconds for the intro videos to start. It is not really that long so don't mind it but it could be similar to the same reason that these users are experiencing the very slow load time.

Hmm, what system do you have, Spyre2000? For me, it was about 5 minutes before 1.2.1 and about 15-20 minutes now. So it could be "simply" brute force? :) I have only dual-core E7300 and 3.2Gb of RAM on my XP - so delay. If you have much more powerful system, then...

Why is it taking forever to load the game? is it to do with windowed and or full screen use. I am running a three monitor system does this effect that? will the game eventually load?

Could you explain what exactly the problem is? Did you manage to load the game ever or not?

I know one case which seems linked to Steam behavior and steps are as follows:
1. change language from english to russian or vice-versa
2. try to start the game - seems stuck with black screen on startup
3. verify local files integrity - it repairs some files and the game starts normally then

I built it myself so you'd think I'd remember that kind of stuff. Off the top of my head though it's Quad Core 3.2 Ghz i7, 16 Gb RAM, Nvidia 5700GTX(I think), ASROCKS MB(don't recall #), SSD HD with Win7 64 bit OS, and Sata HD for regular storage(including games).

Another oddity I've noticed is when Warlock is running it slows down my whole machine... sort of. I sometimes alt-tab when playing to look up stuff on the wiki. Given that I have learned the game enough that most of the units I know have memorized I didn't need to alt tab. Then one day when playing I alt-tab to look something up do to a question posed by a friend on steam chat. I noticed that when I was typing there was a serious lag of about a couple seconds between what I typed and what would appear. The letters would appear slowly by one character at a time.

I had about 20 tabs open in firefox at the time and thought it might be related to something on some site, unresponsive script or flash/java issue. So I went to type it into notepad figuring it would be faster and then simply copy/paste it over. But to my shock it was typing just as slowly in notepad as it was in firefox. Everything else seem fine as windows open and closed at normal rates.

So figuring something was seriously wrong and I needed to investigate I closed down Warlock and was about to trying and debug it only to find that the problem was resolved and everything was normal again. Since I had just closed warlock and now everything was normal again I figured it was the most likely cause. So I loaded the game up again then alt-tabbed out and sure enough everything i tried typing in was slow again. It's kind of annoying and didn't happen before, though I did start playing in full screen instead of window mode due to the MP issues in the original 1.2 patch so not sure if that is related. Have to test that when I get home.

Overall it's just a minor annoyance as I don't alt-tab much to type, just to change the songs on my music player i sometimes run in background which is all clicking. In fact I didn't even remember it until just now since last time it was an issue was trying to look up some elven units on wiki late last week.

Hmm, so it's 4 times my memory and twice my processor... It could be the reason then...

I am playing in window. No such issues, if game is waiting for my input...

...But if game loading right now or maybe do move, it's exactly your issue. But I think, it's normal. :) Of course, if game do something, it must reflects on system perfomance. :)

Hello there, VDmitry! I'll try your advice, but I doubt it's the reason - or solution... :)

there was a problem with the witcher 2 loading slowly that was caused by having a lot of save game files that all had to be read in order to populate the load menu at start up. try going to your save folder and moving or deleting any games you don't want anymore.

steam > userdata > [userid] > [appid] > local > default > saves

I know this is an old thread; but I resolved this issue today for my own system, so I wanted to post this for anyone still having the issue. When I first installed WMotA, I would get a black screen for a couple of minutes before the startup videos actually started. I tried all the potential fixes I could find on the web, but none of them worked. Today, I did some computer cleanup, and voila! The game starts up quite quickly now. To be fair, I did a number of things to my system, so I can't be 100% sure of what I "fixed", but the prime suspect at this point is HydraDM. That's the AMD desktop manager for multiple monitor setups. Since I only use one monitor, I didn't need it and elected to not run it at startup. That and "ISUSPM Startup" were the only processes I got rid of; and other than that, I just did the standard registry clean up stuff (CCleaner and Glary). So ... my money is on the desktop manager.

That's my story and I"m sticking to it.

EDIT: OK. Have to recant my story already. After Steam updated itself today (Dec 4), the problem was back. Probably because I launched the game from the Steam client, where it always seems to do the "first time" Direct X initialization. Subsequent startups, going directly to the .exe instead of through the Steam client, continued to have the problem -- until I rebooted my system. Then the problem was gone again. So looking more like it's something to do with Steam.
