I have been reading that russia is hard to play so I and a friend that have the game tried out to play russia. We where cheating heavy with resources and manpower. We where building 6 defencive lines with lvl 2 forts all the way back to Stalingrad line. Got lvl 5 forts in leningrad with a wall of lvl 3 forts with 3 div inf around stalingrad. Moscow same, rostov and kiev also. Fortyfied the aproach to Sevastopol with lvl 1 forts. Filled all hexes between the defencive lines with a mix of inf and militia with AT guns. Filled last 2 defencive lines with guard units mixed with light and medium armor..
I researched all doctrines for my ground forces (got lvl 82 in org) prioritized infantry and quality. Got lvl 4 inf researched and arty also lvl 2.

I felt very strong. Got 280 inf divisions and Germany got 180 total. 6 Armor compared to my 15.

Ok War ensu, and then sillyness started. Every combat all thrue the first month was 1 day and my losses was 4-5000 and germans between 0 to 30 men. It looked like the germans never lost org. And it was obvious when they combat my guard units over river, combat last longer and Germany lost 300 men no org and I 15000 men. The most silly attack was against sevastopol. 1 inf div succeded pressing down my fort aproach towards the port and with 1 days combats on each fort coming down to start attacking in 7 days. I got 3 fresh inf division with arty and the remnants from the silly attacks earlier in the week. Some day later Sevastopol was fallen. No losses on the German Division. I stoped play August the second when moscow was surrounded when my guards was pushed aside. From their silly forts. So Russia was defeted in 1½ month without any visible German losses and I got under 50 inf division left standing.

Please please fix this.
 
I had a round as Germany and for the first month i crushed threw the lines like the knife threw the butter. low org and, it seems, no morale of the SU units. but with the advancement of the campaign the russians became stronger. of course, i had encircled too many of the units and the army was only strong in the north, so i had the better peace event at the end. what i want to say is, that there are maybe events pushing your units. so hold the line as long as you could.

short question, what is gde stands for?
 
Didny work. in the end of juli sevastopol, leningrad, rostov voronesh captured. Germay got more losses but my losses incresed too. When Germany got 200 more I got 2000 more. Lost 50 divisions a week. All my guards gone, gave more losses but die in procces. Tried both ground_def_eff 1.0 and 1.1
Was good for awhile until first ground defence update with 0.7 %. Then losses increased and combat was faster again. All my guard units dead while giving more losses for the Germans. Got feeling that German victory is hardcoded when I been forced to retreat with zero casualties and the germans 30 to 300 losses.
Coclusion: not fun and many hours spent in wain.
 
Russia definitely needs some steroids or something, they won in real life. Why not in the game?
 
Seems you got an event activated which was being "nice" to you and "increased" you GDE to 0.7. Find that event and replace the hard coded 0.7

But why was this event chain even put into it in the first place?

Germany could capture Russia in AoD if you were good enough. So why weaken the soviets in IC?

Or was it to offset the later increase coded into SU?
 
And I did cheat in this game, more troops better org but nothing seemed to help.

edit, I think I gonna start as poland and attack germany directly to get some revenge ;O)
 
To me this sounds like a Soviet game finally becoming challenging

I think you are right. The edited 1.0 is reseted to 0.7 via event. So unless you edit the event itself or you change the savegame again it's the old situation all over again. Due to the land doctrines as SOV you already are a little bit weaker regarding organization. So you are more likely to loose the first battles. Then again you have a much higher moral. The initial losses are exponentially higher because of the low GDE.
Didn't look up the events, but probably its best to set them all to 1.0. Or a range from 0.95-1.05.
 
Well i played a game as USSR again, and once again got demolished by the German AI. I can beat the German AI in AOD easily but once i play IC, its like a 10% chance of winning if its even that much.

USSR needs halp...
 
I played Soviet Union with IC over Arma and got to Berlin early 43 - could have done it better. They almost steamrolled me in May/June 41 though - then event fires which raises my GDE from 0.8 to 1.3 - I don't know for how long, but soon I was on the counteroffensive.
Tip: I always research those skill 2/4 doctrine techs as fast as possible to get the research % up, so as to have always 110-120% speed. They seem not to be of great use without proper GDE though. I've seen 3 German Inf divisions cut through my 12 units stack in 1 day attacking from 1 direction!
 
So it seems that ARMA version works quite well and AoD version needs serious rebalance.

When I played IC with AoD on highest AI cheating settings I got terribly crushed by SU. Succesful Barbarossa turned into hell with a single but serious GDE modification. It is not good way of handling turning points in wars IMO.
