Hello All!

I have an idea, I think would be nice to see in the game. Long story short, why don't we have waste such as dirty water or trash? Colonists drink water but they don't produce any sorts of waste. Also, they consume polymers and electronics but they don't throw anything away.

It'd be nice to see some kind of recycling in the game, as it is a survival game on a different planet. We'll definately need to recycle all sorts of waste in real life if we want to survive.

My recommendation is to have new buildings such as landfill, waste water tank where the waste would accumulate. And buildings like recycling plant to reduce unemployment plus turning rubbish from landfill into resource. Also water treatment unit which will use waste water and turn it into potable water.

Let's brainstorm!

Thank you for reading,

I suspect the next expansion - entitled, as it is, "Green Planet" - could well add some things along these lines - particularly as Space Race made waste rock effectively like another resource (even if transports can't carry it, which I still find strange!).

I guess it'd be cool if there was a "bio waste" type metric (only produced by domes/farms), which you could then use to improve fertility and/or enhance the comfort of gardens and the like - along with domes producing some general waste that would need to be piled up with the other waste rock. Anything else would probably over-complicate things?

Well, it is right that new aspects may sometimes complicate things and erodes fun part of the game. Remember, DEV's removed the battery aspect of the rovers in the game to relieve survival stress, on the other hand strenghtening city-planner side of the game.

Anyway, I still believe there is a possiblity the expand waste management in the game due to, well, city-planner games also have that kind of stuff, in which side of the game the DEV's want to expand.

I think bio-waste is a sorely needed part of the game. Especially because, at the moment, the colonist side of the game is pretty underwhelming. Shallow's not quite the word, but it just boils down to "give them oxygen, water, houses, and a consumerist lifestyle." I think if every colonist produced a certain amount of bio-waste that could be converted into O2, H2O, and soil quality, that would be useful. It wouldn't even require much extra:
- Colonist produces X units of waste each sol.
- A new treatment building turns waste into the aforementioned resources (soil quality would be the tricky one to get right)
- Rebalance the O2 and H2O needs of colonists/production from buildings.
