Russia 1767-1792

The political crisis from previous years was not over by a longshot, instead it intesified as the peasents managed to get a legislative meaure on limiting serfdom and formally abolish aristocracy up to debate in the Duma. The Duma being made up of regionally appointed governors, every free citizen had the possibility to run for governor but in essence all seats were taken by former aristocrats, merchants and rich farmers. The crisis had made it possible for several popular prominent officers to assume seats in the Duma together with peasents from the more distant provinces. The debates raged in the duma but in the end the proposed laws of full emancipation of the serfs, landreforms and voting rights for all men, based on the constituion of the newly formed United States, were voted down. Instead the bourgeoisie voted in a new system of aristocratic laws. Making the land owned by the regions and then distributed under a new system of aristocratic titles, since many landowners were merchants these people in turn were made nobility and as such displacing free citizens and turning even more of them into serfs out of necessity. The regions runned by the new aristocracy in turn gained more indepence from the state.

This of course upset the country greatly but massive instabilty due to the proposed landreforms were averted as the new Empress Yekaterina II Velikaya signed the laws and created a huge court for herself in St.Peterburg. She wanted to come closer to the continents luxuries and stay away from the populist policies of the old empresses.

The generals suggested a war against Poland to put the displaced farmers to work and unite the country behind the throne against the catholic dogs. Yekaterina in her usual bored mood decided this was an excellent idea and spent large sums the previous Empresses had saved up. Poland was quickly divided as Prussia and Austria also decided to put an end to the trapped country. It was a stunning succes and all of Finland, Ukraine, Lithuania and parts of Poland Proper and the much of the baltics were incorporated into the Empire. Not long after Yekaterina also crowned herself empress of Ethopia, effectively ending the independence of the country and making it a region of the Empire. The people celebrated the war but officers and the the russian peasntry in the western empire saw it as an attack on a brother people.

Not long after this news reached the court that the austrians had decided to abolish serfdom and the courts of Spain and Prussia had decreased the power of the aristocrats. Such nonsense, the empress scoffed. Divine right and glory was more important than the petty squabbling of the people.

She decided to try and convert Finland and the rest of Mongolia to the one true faith. Orthodoxy was made a must for anyone with a aristocratic title and for everyone working in the state. Many koreans and ruthenians that had faithfully served the state for generations were sacked and tensions were building on more and more fronts.

The state initiated several buildups of manufactories to quell local complaints and together with the recent conquests the number of new manufactories in the Empire was as high as eleven. However, a new crisis hit the state as state bureaucrats faithful to the ideals of the Maiden of Russia, Elizaveta I, had undermined the decentralizing effects of the regions and returned control to the departments under the crown. Yekaterina sacked a large number of clerks and soon the state of affairs reached a boling point.

Revolution struck the empire in winter of 1791-92, liberals revolted everywhere and the IKEA, Chinese Garrison, the Finnish Dragoons, Ukrainian Guard, Moscowite Army and the Ethiopian colonial militia declared they would no longer serve the Empress. All of Finland, Micronesia, Somalia, Ukraine, the eastern Tartars, Mongolia and even much of the russian heartland were under the controll of rebels in a matter of weeks.

Field Marshall Suvorov heading the Imperial Army in St.Petersburg soon dispatched armies to Finland, Moscow and Kiev to quell the military risings and then storm all the cities under control of the rebels. Suvorov styled himself and the Empress as a reactionary force of history, opposed to the liberal agenda. He claimed he would not rest until the state had complete control over the country once more.

AAR - the repair of Italy

The new ruler of Italy, Aladar I, took over the rule of the kingdom in the year of the lord 1792.

A poor nation it was, the nation was in turmoil and had expanded only into China and Japan, with no other possession in the entire world. Clearly the stange people in China did not like to be ruled in such a way and as long as they were under Italian rule, it was clear that the turmoil would be very costly to get rid of.

Thou the provinses in China were rich, they were also the one thing that hampered the Italian empire. So in a few quick wars against the Chinese, the cost of raising stability in the realm was reduced from far over 4.000 ducats a year, more than a years income for the poor nation, to around 1.500 ducats in 1820, now less 3 months income. Despite the loss of taxincome and traderevenues from this, the overall decission of giving back China the 10 provinses was a lot more beneficial to Italy than to China, who seems to have lost the provinses soon after to Russia.

Trade has clearly been neglected, so a huge effort was put into restoring the tradeincome. Within a few decades the income from trade more than trippled and was part of the great restoration of the empire. This ofcourse came at a cost to other trading empires, but with the vast number of CoT's in the world, not many of them seemed to mind, most of they often being at war and as such not to focussed on trade all the time.

The military was nearly non existant in 1792, but with a lot of effort the army was raised from less than 100.000 to a standing army of over 600.000. This ofcourse would have been impossible in 1792, but thanks to the 7 new Constription centers, it is now possible to maintain a decent army, thou the navy still lags any real power. While no wars were fought in Italy during the first reign, our new army was nessecary to protect the empire, should some unfriendly neighbor have desided to expand his empire into Italy. If wars will break out in the future is impossible to say, but surely Italy will now be able to atleast put up a fight.

To protect the empire many forts all over Italy was also increased so that no fort is now below a medium fort, which will hopefullly secure the empire from attacks from the other largers powers in Europe, which sadly is nearly all of them. This ofcourse was a very costly process, but thanks to nearly 3 decades of peace, the Italian empire was able to accummulate a very large sum of money, which was put to good use. Still after having improved the army, forts and cc's, a very large sum is again ready to be used in to expand the power of our little empire.

AAR-reward: -1 deflation, core on 1955

Also i would like some leaders, according to the save i have 0 leaders for the rest of the game.

Russia 1792-1820

Field Marshal Surovov led the reactionary forces of the empress to a quick victory in Finland, with all of the towns and garrisons back under imperial control within a few months. At the same time another imperial army broke out from the encirclement of Moscow, marched south and met up with an Ottoman Army dispatched by the sultan fearing a widespread rebellion among the tartars living in both Russia and the Ottoman Empire. The armies quickly reorganized and assaulted several large forts along the long border.

Surovov in the meantime sent his army south and assaulted forts on his way to the prussian border to quell all uprising in the baltics and Poland. His superior skills as a commander meant the end of many liberal troublemakers are fort after fort fell before him, other brigadiers were not so successful and several large drafted armies were stuck siegeing for the winter of 93. This was understandable from Surovovs position as many commanders had left ranks and joined in with the liberals, however the empress was not as understanding and ordered more attacks on all fronts. This led to some embarrassing assaults with large losses but the empress just drafted more soldiers to replace the casualties. At one point even the Sultan, not famous for his lenient ways, raised a point to the Empress of not attacking every single rebel fort due to the losses of manpower involved. In the end Russia proper was liberated from liberal control and the reactionary counter-revolution was successful

Siberia, China, Korea and Mongolia had stayed faithful except for a couple of governors in the middle of nowhere. Of course there was the problem of losing most of the IKEA to rebels but new armies were raised and soon the out east rebellion was quelled too. Ethiopia and Nubia was a bigger problem since there was no real way of raising troops so far away from the motherland, so the task fell to the ottomans which gladly took the chance for some target practice in the name of Allah.

Suvorov was hailed as a hero of the state and the empress rewarded him with mansions and titles but he refused the titles claiming that he was mearly doing his job as a loyal servant of Russia. However, it was clear that the russian state could not afford this affair again and the Duma discussed actions to ease tensions in society. It was at this time the old and stressed Empress Yekatrina died from a heartattack.
The wife of the empress, tsar Paul I, took over the throne and immideatly signed a block of new laws that restricted serfdom and reinstated some imperial control over the regions of the state. It was at this time that the Tsar declared Ethiopia a free nation once more. He was proclaimed king of the country so Paul ruled Ethiopia as his personal fiefdom and it was proclaimed that there would be no central goverment of the country, instead new political ideas would be tested in the provinces of there. A personal political playhouse of the Tsar.

Paul I, or Pavel as he was called by the people, did not reign for long. His reign lasted only 5 years but the legal restrictions on serfdom had set off new movements in the state and the next tsar Aleksandr I went even further and replaced all state legislation with a more liberal one. The power of the aristocracy was greatly diminished and serfdom was abolished, however the citizens were not entirely free as they still held great personal debts to the nobility but this was seen as out of the state's hand.

That Aleksandr ruled Russia in a time of great conflict in the world was not surprising and the war between France and Prussia against Austria was expected. What was not expected was that the austrian archduke decided to call for russian help in the face of Napoleon. The Archduke promised Aleksandr whatever he wanted if the only came to Austrias help when things were looking especially grim.

With such an offer Russia drafted a huge army and soon after joined Austria in combat against the revolutionary tendencies of the french army. Prussia was quickly overwhelmed and most of Sweden and the baltics soon fell in the wake of russian onslaught. The russian navy bombarded the helpless german ships and soon naval supremacy of the Baltic sea was established. Armies were sent to Austria to help out against the french but got stuck defeating one prussian army after another. However brutal and effective the russian offensive was it mattered not since it was matched by an equal amount of austrian incompetence. The political stability in Prussia and France were suffering when they rejected generous russian peacedeals but the austrian archduke soon surrendered his armies and left the alliance with Russia. Russia was left in a war against two great nations she did not wish to fight alone and prussian stubborn refusal to accept any kind of peace deal soon spilled over in russian resentment of the whole continent of Europe.

In the end a white peace was signed as no one wanted to continue the fight, even though russian dominance was uncontested. Napoleon himself came to Russia to sign the peace treaty, but the armies sent to greet him with a parade was interpreted as a hostile force and his army wiped out the parading armies. A slight misunderstanding but the peace was signed in any case.

However, Russia had spent huge sums on outfitting an army and navy to gain to prussian land and and "whatever you want" from Austria but had nil to show for it. Not a single ducat had reached Russias coffers. Entirely unacceptable, Aleksandr was furious. He decided to oppress some chinese to blow off some steam. No one knew what to do with him or what he might do with the russian economy and armies at his disposal.
