Calbeck: The key to Albania's Middle Eastern success was definitely the use of Greek troops.
As Albania, I did build a militia unit, but it did not last long. Because of absolutely miniscule manpower, it was all I could do to keep the transport and cavalry unit reinforced.
I actually got the idea to use the Greeks after becoming irritated at the fact that they were building up on my border. After they joined the Axis, I asked to take control of their military and they agreed. Does the AI ever say no?
After that, I used my cavalry to establish a beach head in an unguarded province. Then I sent my troop transport as an expeditionary force to the Greeks. Since I had control over the Greeks, I could now load and transport Greek troops from Greece to my new posessions. Then I used the Greeks to expand the borders of the newly seized territory. Since they were getting supply from land held by Albania, all of the new land they captured was added to Albanian control.
Aside from conscripting the Greeks, I was hands off the rest of the Axis. It would have been very tempting to take control of the Italians, since the AI was doing such a hack job. Honestly. Wandering off into the desert to die. Finally, I used no cheats, except for the occassional reload to a previous save point.
I am hoping to begin another go at in 1.04 soon... I just need time to catch my breath.
I am also getting distracted at the prospect of a game as Liberia. I have played a few test games, and Liberia is in a position to well as a member of the Axis or Allies, depending on which way France goes in the Vichey event.
