Others
Two Sicilies: Jaeger74
russia: the general
prussia: coco
usa:
uk: Brasidas
austria: Blair Lamond
france: LM+

Rules:
Trade with AI: No multiple £100 gift type trading for relations. Buy/sell provinces to the ai however you like, except once you sold a province to them, its theirs for good except in war. If you got (or are building) 1 of each colony building in a claim area, you cant sell any of the other claims in that area, even if the ai are the ones making the offer. I think the controls in game should be sufficient for tech trading.

Army/war: You must have enough soldiers of a culture to support all the troops of that culture (no building 99 divisions when the system should only allow 1, and no demobilizing pops that support those divisions.) Do we need a limit on native divisions for civs? No repeated dows against the same country for prestige. Regular units placed into reserve by any means must be redeployed straight away.

Missing players: No diplomacy of any sort with ai run human countries. Any wars with these countries must end in white peace. If you are allied with an ai run human country and another ai dow's them you may, of course, join in to help them. If your AI allied dow's them, then you must stay out; if you were intending to dow them then you will have to wait.

thought that it was about time we had a more traditional thread for this... (i ripped it off another thread...)
ill update the first post as we go along...
first off we need a good host, apparently (well i never played mp so i dunno personally) a fast connection and a good spec comp is required... Ive a good comp but only a 512 connection, so i dont think i could manage it
we also need to tie down the settings and any additional rules were going to use, as well as the game time and day.

we also need a uk and a usa, also prefably a france and austria and prefably one other (oe maybe?)
of course, if we cant get enough people then we ditch the idea...

I think that 512 Kbps is fine. I once hosted Age of Empires having an ISDN connection and it was fine.
Anyway, do you have any idea how much bandwidth is required to play the game smoothly ?

Yes, I would like to play next Sunday.

I tried it last week with some people. Not sure if any of you guys where there.

There were some problems with the game, and I couldn't start it. I'm not sure, if the others did play or not. I have to check all firewall issues once more.

Is the Victoria channel working or should we use the Common channel?

OK guys, will next Sunday at 14:00 GMT be a suitable time for all of you?

I am updating the list to include all the newcomers

Two Sicilies: Jaeger74
russia:TheGeneral
prussia: coco
usa:
uk:
austria:
france: LM+

Does anyone have a good connection to be the host ?

ive a 512... anyone got anything better?

lm you'd be welcome to play, at least then i get to learn how to play better *g* ive seen your mexico screen shots...
we could do with some general rules, like actions against the ai etc and no 'gamey' stuff (do we need a list?)

and also hopefully at least 2 more players... im not sure we could all keep up with russia

Well, let's just say that I'm going to play a little more ... cautiously ... against you lot then against the AI. Especially playing France, happy home of birth control.

One vote for a list. Please. The problem is that there are all sorts of ways to get ahead, totally in-game, no-cheats, many of which are more-or-less abusive. The problem is: What counts as abusive?

What I really don't want is to do something that I thought was completely kosher, but that most other folks - or even just the chap I'm at war with - think is exploitative. And then be thought ill of as an uncool gamer when I was honestly trying to play on the straight and narrow. That would hurt.

I don't care WHO makes the list. I just want some guidelines. I'd be happy to share my usual "house rules" with anyone who cares, but don't mind if not a one gets adopted.

If anyone thinks that France is in the "power-balancing" business with a Russia running around, you're sadly mistaken. Far as I'm concerned France is playing for #6, long term. Anything better after 1870 is gravy.

If Blair Lamond takes Austria, it could balance game a little. You can take UK, but it will then be even more powerful than Russia. If we have human controlled UK, we must make some rules for raising native divisions, because they can recruit almost unlimited amount of those.

I think tech sharing should be limited. Without any rules an alliance of 2 or 3 countries will be too powerful, if they share all techs to others. 1 tech per one human controlled country in 5 years could be fine. Or 5 techs in 25 years, so you could make trades with more techs at once. What do you think?

Maybe all of us should make our primary goals clear before starting the game, to prevent unnecessary insults on other players/countries. I don't mean long diplomatic letters like in some other games, but short lists of your main issues.

I am glad to see so many people in the game :) .

Coco I would love to see your list of rules. I can agree to any rule that seems logical and doesn't spoil the fun.

I have seen this national / native divisions rule in other games as well, but I always had this question :

How do you the player can easily keep track of the kind of divisions you have and how can others chack to see you conform to this rule ?

By the way, is Sunday 14:00 - 18:00 GMT the agreed hour ?

Also, I think we should have a diplomacy thread.... There we could post our goals, and make things known ...

If you are interested in one I will create one and we can start talking before the game starts... (I am too anxious to begin :D )

As you can see Blair, all of the countries you asked for are free to be taken... Please choose one and post, so that I can update the list.

Yea, I am a corporal !!! :D

What I did see in a previous game was that all players were allied against a single player. I do not know the history of the game, but I do not believe that such a trick is fair-play, unless of course, the latter is a real ....

I think I Will Be Austria!!

Hello, :)

I will be Austria, as i believe it is a balance to Russia in Central Europe, saving the West From being overrun!!

If you could post, that would be great, am I hosting or is it someone else?

I noticed you wanted game strategies, I will post mine if needed!!

Thanks

Who is to be the host?

Hello,

This is just to ask who is hosting this game, naturally it will be someone with a fast connection

My connection is: Broadband ISDN 1.5MBPS

Is anybody better? we need the fastest connection as we don't want everybodys game to be slow becase the host can't keep up!!

thanks

Unfortunately, Blair, I will be back from the office at around 20:00 GMT, that is 15:00 EST. If you are able to log in to the channel then, we could try it...

By the way, do you have an ICQ number or MSN so as to be able to contact you?

And I am waiting for your posts in the brand new diplomacy thread :
