I recently (as in yesterday) reinnstalled Windows ME, at first Windows Media Player worked perfectly, but a few hours later it suddenly refused to start and gave an error message about causing a conflict with kernel32.dll. Then about an hour afterwards it suddenly began working perfectly again, the next day (as in today) it started off working, but stopped working again after a game of EU2, several hours of trouble-shooting later I discovered the cause of the problem. WMP refuses to start only when I have the EU2 CD in my CD-ROM, it works perfectly whenever I have no CD in it or any other CD (Neverwinter Nights, DiabloII, etc, etc).
Now, this is a relativly benign problem for me (now that I've found the cause), but I still wonder what the hell could cause WMP to have such a dislike for the EU2 CD? And yes I've tested this extensivly and I'm certain the EU2 CD is what is causing the problem.
Has Microsoft declared a vendetta on Paradox or something? ;)

could be :D

I suspect it has to do with copy protection, preventing memory access to WMP or something like that. just a guess though :)

Must have, because it worked just fine before the re-install, but oddly enough it only applies to the EU2 CD.
