I would rather hide the author of the hunt in the update, AOK. Accomplishes the same.

That has been tried. And it failed. As EURO pointed out you simply post right at the deadline that X is going to be hunted. You did the right thing changing it.
Now, one question, why make the GA a trait? That is a strange idea.

You're just AOK's bitch. EUROO7 is an odd duck and cannot play the role of butch.
Why must GA be role? I still shudder when remembering randakar's game with evil doctors, etc. Why not make it a role?
And why make hunter a trait available to baddies? They already have the ability to hunt. Why not leave it for goodies; revert the percentages for hunter back to 50%; and leave it as is, which is, hunters never use their nightly hunt ability because then they are vulnerable for an instant hunt from the baddies?
To prevent insta JL. That is why it is a trait. If the hunter is a known goodie, he simply uses his ability and then once everyone knows he is good the JL is formed. Just like the goodie witness role. After a hunter has hunted, he is no more dangerous to the wolves than anyone else. I am not sure why he would be hunted immediately. I would not target a hunter under those circumstances unless there was some other specific reason.
He could be targeted just for being JL, but there are doctors and GA's to protect him. Anyway, it will be balanced with the rest of the setup, which, obviously, I cannot disclose.
If that was some veiled criticism about me, I won't hear it and I won't respond to it.
