Werewolf Lite CCCXIII: Monster

INTRO: Hello! Welcome to Happycats' first (but certainly not last) Werewolf Lite! And here's your GM, Happycats! He likes long walks on the beach, pina coladas, and the feeling of water coming out of your ear after it has been stuck in their for a while. He's also dashingly handsome and his favorite animal is dogs! We're kidding, it's actually cats! Who would have guessed that? Not this block of text.*

*These statements have been independently reviewed and approved by happycats517. They do not reflect the feelings of Paradox Interactive or the WW community as a whole. Side effects of playing the game may include sneezing, coughing, slight discomfort, itchy eyes, hallucinations of dancing cats, erectile dysfunction, and death. If you experience any of these side effects, please contact a medical professional immediately.

And now the setting!

SETTING: Sasbach, West Germany, 1983
rothenburg-topper.jpg

The stillness of a quiet spring night is broken by the blaring of police sirens and the rush of patrol cars as they converge on a small farmhouse on the edge of town. The detectives of the Sasbach police force survey the grisly scene. The elderly couple who lived in the farmhouse are now barely recognizable, done in by a multitude of knife wounds. Whoever killed them did it with cold efficiency, leaving no possibility for failure. This is the third such murder just in this month in the small town that was home to barely five thousand people, and there had been ten such killings in the past year.

The string of murders has put the entire town on edge and unnerved much of the populace. Neighbors are slowly growing distrustful of each other and paranoia and unrest is fomenting and threatening to boil over. One of the older detectives looks around uneasily and comments, "Normally when you come to a murder scene, you can feel something. Rage, love, envy, greed, something. Here . . . here it just feels like someone died. In fact all of the scenes have felt like that."

The Sasbach police force has long been trying to prove that the murders were connected, but besides the older detectives murmuring about the "feel" of the crime scenes, they haven't been able to prove anything. Every murder brought a new MO. A different weapon was used for each murder and the victims were seemingly chosen at random, with no connection in their personal lives or their appearance. The victims were old and young, men and women, lawyers and prostitutes, blacks and whites, people from all walks of life.

Tonight's crime scene seems much like the others. The killer left behind little physical evidence and there was not a single hint of a motive either. But then one of the detectives finds something. He gasps in fear and almost retches from what he's found but he swallows his fears and runs off to find the chief detective. He finds the chief detective standing over the bodies of the elderly couple and shoves what he has found into his hands. "You need to see this, sir! I found it lying in the bedroom where we think the killer attacked the old man. It's the proof we've been looking for." The chief detective looks at the evidence. It's a packet of photos taken of the crime scenes. Wait no, these photos were taken before the police arrived. That means whoever had taken them had to have been at every crime scene before the police. And that could only mean . . . Finally, the chief detective gets to the end of the series of photos and he sees a small note. He lifts up the note to his face to get a better look and reads it:

"Hello. I am the Monster of Sasbach. I hope you appreciate my work. I hope the world appreciates my work."

Let the game begin.

((In case anyone is curious, this theme was originally inspired by the manga Monster, but it's taken on its own story since then.))

RULES (Shamelessly stolen from Wagon's last lite):
There will be 17 players, no more, no less. Roles will be handed out after #17 signs up.
The game will then proceed to the First Night (after I have handed you your roles).

ROLES:
The players are the 17 detectives selected by Sasbach's chief of police to form a special taskforce to track down the Monster. The set up is as follows:
1x Special Agent (Seer): Sent by the government to help with the investigation, this agent has access to BKA records and can use those records to scan a player once every night to see if they are an associate or a detective.
4x The Monster's Associates (Werewolves): Men who are working with the Monster for some unknown purpose. They have infiltrated the investigation team and are attempting to sabotage it. The associates work together and know the other associates. Once every night they can use their underworld connections to have a player murdered.
12x Detectives (Villagers): The normal detectives of Sasbach. They are only sure of their own innocence.

NOTE: Obviously, the players are encouraged to choose appropriate characters to play as, and to roleplay if they like. However, if a player does not choose a character, one will be selected for them at such time that something happens to them, usually something bad.

Deadlines for votes are given by 21:00 GMT (PLEASE CONVERT THIS TO YOUR OWN TIME ZONE IMMEDIATELY TO AVOID FUTURE CONFUSION). A vote at 20:59 will count, whereas a vote at 21:00 will not.

Also! I am formally claiming this as my GM color. All ghosts who use it shall incur my fluffy wrath.

Game starts with a nocturnal deadline.

Winning:
The Monster and his associates win if they reach parity with the detectives. Detectives win if they catch all the associates.

Standard Lite Rules

There shall be seventeen players. All roles will be handed out after the last person signs up. The game will then proceed to a night deadline.

The game is divided into two periods - night and day. For practical reasons these two periods are run concurrently, from one update till the next. Each update is 24 hours apart.

Each day, all players vote to lynch one of the players - the person they think is most likely to be a werewolf. Each night, the werewolves decide who to kill. In each 24 hour period, the village will lynch, and the werewolves will hunt. The villagers can try to lynch multiple people by creating a glorious, Lemeard-approved tie, and the werewolves can also decide not to hunt anyone at all at night. Beware of Crovaxian slips as well!

The werewolves win if they manage to reach parity with the villagers.
The villagers and seer win if they manage to kill all the werewolves.

MOAR RULES:
§1. You sign up for the game by requesting so in a post in this thread.
§2a. No new players will be admitted into the game once it has started, unless substituting for a current player.
§2b. Players who have been subbed due to failure to participate may not sub for others
§3. You are responsible for keeping your private message inbox empty enough to receive private messages. You are yourself responsible for any messages missed due to your inbox being full.

§4a. Orders not delivered on time are IGNORED.
§4b. NOT VOTING means REPLACEMENT OR EVEN DEATH, IMMEDIATELY. The granting of any "grace period" or forgiveness for late votes is entirely up to the GM.
§4c. Invalid votes (like voting for the GM, voting for dead people etc.) are treated like no vote is made. The GM has the final say in all matters.
§4d. Lying to the GM results in permanent ban from werewolf games.
§4e. Never quote private messages from GM (whether true or fake) in the game.
§4f. Screenshots of private messages aren’t allowed in the game.

§5a. SPECTATORS AND GHOSTS MAY HAUNT, TAUNT AND FLAUNT, BUT NEVER SUGGEST ANY COURSE OF ACTION, AFFECT THE GAME IN ANY OTHER WAY NOR REVEAL ANY SECRET/INSIDE INFORMATION. ANYONE CAUGHT DOING IT WILL BE *PERMANENTLY* BANNED FROM PARTICIPATION. NO EXCUSES ARE VALID.
§5b. When doing ghost/spectator commentary, please use a non-white colour.

§6 Alliances which aren't based on your roles in the game between players are forbidden. These alliances which continue from one game to another undermine the whole idea of the game.

VOTE X
If you wish to unvote someone, write "UNVOTE":
UNVOTE X, VOTE Y
Capital letters are optional. Any other type of voting is counted as no vote and will make you eligble for subbing. Spelling errors are subject to oversight. In case of revoting without unvoting the original vote will be the counted vote.
§7b At the end of the day player with highest votes is killed (lynched). If there is a tie, all leading candidates will be killed.
§7c Players will be dead when GM posts the update saying so, until such time happens every player still in game is alive (if barely in the case of vote winners)
§7d Editing vote posts is strictly forbidden.

§8. - The GM can and will remove players if the GM believes the player is not participating at his/her full capacity. This will be done through the use of killing the player's role, or using substitutes, if they are available. All such decisions are made solely at the discretion of the GM. Let's see, do I have time for this? Hell no.

Do I care any more, though? Also hell no.

I will happily concede my spot if there are enough subs, though ("enough" being defined as someone especially eager to play being left out).

Also, GM might reconsider the GM colour as magenta isn't very readable unless bolded.
