Gah, the scenarios folder didnt update in the .rar for 2.02, I have uploaded just this folder (so you dont have to redownload the whole .rar) and fixed this in 2.03.

People seem to be having trouble with Megaupload, any suggestions of other places I should use?

If you're talking about me, megaupload's fine, it was the one before that I had problem's with. OTOH, I have always personally prefered Filefront.
Just downloaded by the way, and it's looking good. Also see you nicked the start menu off Westeros: Total War.

A couple of things. First Roose Bolton should be a vassal of the Starks, I know this is because of the three-tier system, but quite honestly I think it would be simpler to make the Overlord's dukes and their vassals all counts, controlling their entire desmense rather than their vassals, as no such thing happened in the books. Two, under the above configuration, mace Tyrell should still be a vassal of Aerys, and also Tywin Lannister, though keeping Tywin as a rival might stop mobilization calls. Oh, and the Martells. Three, Gulltown remained loyal to the Iron Throne, so you could restrict the East's only port to there and force the Arryns to fight there way to it.

ran 10 test years on 2.03

Targaryens don't have the Ziri fetish anymore :p
Funny thing and the first time I see it happen is that Robert not only conquered teh Iron throne but also Dorne!!! <wow>

One small bug:
- The Childeren of Raymun Mooton Lord of Maidenpool (William, Myles and Deiyna) are at Lordship of Pinkmaiden instead of Maidenpool :)
- The Drowned God religion doesn't show on Province Status bar. (so if you click on an Iron Lands prov for instance)

I hope you're not getting annoyed with me :p

will start a new game with the Frey's (I just now realized they have such a good starting spot :p)
(the easy pickings in form of Mountain clans)
and i'm pretty sure I won't run out of relatives to rule :p

Thanks for the feedback HDK and WelsDude I have updated the suggestions in a new 2.04. But not Reach and Rock as vassals of Aerys, even with the Reach at war with Robert he gets steamrolled and has no chance of beating Aerys. Considering Tywin held his forces back from the war and sacked Kings Landing and his son Aerys him I dont think it would work well as him being Aerys' vassal.

I think the next scenario will have the Reach, Rock as "duke" teir it would probably work better.

patience you padawan its up now :)

yeah looking at it now the max number of count vassals a duke can have too small, there would be huge chunks of the Reach and Rock that wont be able to be bannermen of a duke level High Garden or Casterly Rock

There's a limit? that's utterly game-breaking. Still, hope remains for CKII. What software do you use to edit files btw?

I can't find the Freys in the start menu, what are they called there?

Wait, what kind of limit is that? I've never heard of it before. Presumably you'd be able to make things easier by, for example, folding all of Oldtown's vassals into their demesne instead. It would mean less in the way of playable houses, but the fidelity to the books would be a lot better.

Also worthy of consideration: What about a scenario set before Aegon's conquest, when there really were seven kingdoms? It would involve a lot of guesswork and speculation, obviously, but it's probably the age of Westeros's history that would translate best into CK. For bonus points, give Aegon a "Dragon" trait that gives him boosts to Martial and claims on all the thrones.

Also, now that we actually have a map of Essos (or at least part of it) what about expanding the game map? It would give the Westerosi somewhere to flee to, and make modeling the time period of the books a hell of a lot easier.

EDIT: Actually, come to think of it, the Free Cities were apparently offering to make Aegon the ruler of a new Valyrian Freehold, and he seriously considered it. It would be interesting to do both - make a pre-Conquest scenario with Essos, and present Aegon with a choice-by-event: join with the Free Cities and become the ruler of a new Valyria, or swear to do what no king has ever done and get free claims on all the Seven Kingdoms.

While I'm on the subject, other event chain suggestions: breeding and raising dragons, tourneys and mystery knights, abducting your lover from another court, confronting the guy who kidnapped your sister, and executing rivals who are also your vassals (has the bonus advantage of letting Robert finally finish off those goddamn Targaryens)

No way to model dragons, all though I agree on the Free Cities, I was actually going to offer to make them if Grell told me how to mod the files.

Yes I did consider an early period, before Aegon's conquest or the Age of Heores. As there were actually seven Kingdoms it makes it a bit cleaner gameplay wise. However like WelshDude pointed out its not really possibel to model dragons... I did consider playing around with archer cav set to 1,000 str... but its too awkward, crossing a few provinces would see the 3 dragons die from attrition alone. A scenario set around the Dunk and Egg era would be good, there are some fleshed out family trees for this period too (@ asofia wiki).

I was getting mixed up with vassal limit and demsene limit and had a look at some old posts to see if I could find the answer, Veldy posted:

"Count: Count's intrigue value*0.5*0.5 = demesne limit
Duke: Duke's intrigue value*0.5*1.0= demesne limit
King: Kings intrigue value*0.5*2.0 = demesen limit
So if a character has a intrigue value of 8 then as a count he can control 2 provinces, as a duke 4 provinces and as a king 8 provinces. And there are some bonuses in the game, for the century you are and when the Byzantine emperor is your main title."

So technically a duke could have hunderds of vassals....? I am not sure, even if it wasnt hardcoded there are events which break up such situations (but I could find and remove these)

Isn't it that he can control any amount of territory, but income is restricted depending on intrigue?

No the AI will give the province to a vassal if they are over these limits. A player can try and hold onto more but they get huge "corruption" penalties ( I cant remeber the exact word CK uses) e.g. half income form the province

On Dragons: Rather than a mechanical unit, given how rare and unique dragons are, and the fact that they're almost always associated with particular characters, I was thinking that the best way to model them would be as traits - i.e., Aegon and his sisters would all start with a "Dragon" trait that gives them +10 martial or something, with events to handle the deaths of dragons in battle, the passing down of the current dragons, and the breeding of new ones.

A similar system is already in place for Valyrian blades, so it's probably doable (unless we're at the trait limit already). The same system could also model things like the Stark children's direwolves.

Well, a dragon should not only be a force multiplier boosting Martial by some amount, but also have a great deal of killing power of its own. That might be possible to implement via battle events, but the problem would remain that the AI would not "know" that the trait "dragon" gives these awesome event-driven combat bonuses, and would underestimate the combat power of forces having dragons in them.
