What do you guys think of "March Of The Eagles" and "Sengoku"

Hello guys!! So a few months ago I decided to buy Europa Universalis IV, which I absolutely freakin love (On my top 5 games ever)

Despite having been a HUGE total war fan for years, when I went back to playing Total War after the masterpiece that is EUIV felt like transitioning from a 1000 dollar steak to McDonalds, so I decided to quit playing Total War altogether (The extremely superior quality of PDS games ruined Total War for me )

So I was checking out replacements for each Total War game today and I came upon "Sengoku" (The replacement for Shogun 2) and "March Of The Eagles" (the replacement for Napoleon), yet the steam page said they have mixed reviews.

Could you guys tell me what you think of both these games and whether they're worth picking up on sale?

Ufortunately MOTE and Sengoku are dead games, as in no longer ever going to get content. They just weren't commercially viable enough.

Sengoku has weird mechanics. it is basically a less content CK2 with HOI occupation and annexation of land. i haven't got march of the eagles so i don't know about how go it is. but if you want to play in the warring states period i suggest getting CK2 and playing the mod

I enjoyed playing MotE, but P'dox aren't supporting it as it didn't sell well. I wouldn't buy it unless it was on sale, it's fun, but doesn't stand up to EUIV.

The only con I have for MotE is having too many generals and too many positions to put them in. I found it really confusing.

If you want a challenge, I suggest trying Victoria II. Probably see some Youtube vids of Victoria though beforehand to see if it's your thing. There's a lot of peacetime mechanics.

Sengoku is enjoyable as a focused war/conquest game. Diplomacy/economy could be deeper.

Those are definitely buy on sale games. They are interesting like when you have a favorite band, but you haven't heard any of their earlier stuff-- so you buy some of the albums from a thrift store and listen to them and sort of think -- "wow, this is pretty good, but I can see why they didn't hit it big until X album." You can also see the shifts in design philosophy and approach which is cool in an extra nerdy way as well.

I've spent less than 5 hours on both games as compared to the 300+ I've spent per other titles.

That analogy hits so close to home it's insane!

The main reason I wanna get these games is to basically have a PDS game for every era, and to replace the Total War games (which i'm sure every PDS game beats)

so to complete my collection i'll need to get Victoria II, Sengoku, CKII, EU:Rome, and March Of The Eagles

Hahahah I live in a country that hasn't heard of Star Wars, Paradox, Lord Of The Rings, Steam, Total War, or pretty much ALOT of things. So as you can imagine, it would be pretty impossible to find people willing to buy and play March of The Eagles. Also my net is too slow to be able to play ANYTHING online (60Kb/s download speed on good days)

If its just for single player it doesn't have as much depth and replayability. I still find it worth playing a couple of times a year though. Definitely worth the $5 that it will be during the Christmas sale.

Sengoku feels like a practice round for CK2, since many of the features that ended up in the original CK2 vanilla (some of them have been changed in CK 2 over the years) were first introduced in Sengoku.

I personally find March of the Eagles worth the 75% off sale price for singleplayer. It's not as good as Europa Universalis IV or even close but really you don't need to play that game too many times to justify 5$. I would get it if you feel like you have the time. As for Sengoku i can see why others like it but it's not for me so i probably shouldn't answer that one.

I had a lot of fun with Sengoku, but then again played it way before touching CK2 (haven't played CK1 at all) so it was a first for me in the "grand strategy with RP characters" series.

Ok, so looks like i'll be getting March Of the Eagles (to replace Napoleon Total War) and skipping Sengoku since Shogun 2 seems to have more content and polish

I also recommend the 1792 mod for MotE if you get it, large improvement imo and seems to flesh out some of the stuff that the devs obviously ran out of time for(looking at you, buildings)
