production_dev_focus = 20
culture_dev_focus = 29

And why is it that almost always that warfare dev focus has the least, production has more and culture has the most, in the tags for countries in saved game files?

I assume the use of differing numbers is so they don't overlap?

I think the numbers reflect the order in which technologies are shown, from 1 for bows to 30 for religious flexibility, the first 12 are the warfare, the next 10 are the production and the 8 last are the culture developments. So I assume you are researching Chain armour, Commerce institutions and Religious stringency.

I see.

Is there anything which shows me the relative -speed- of my research development?

Also, if I spend 20 years researching something, research something else, then go back to what I was originally researching, does it "store" my former research or do I have to go back from researching "from the beginning" for that tech?

There is no progress in researching. If you have something selected on the research tab, you are more likely to discover a tech in that area, but it's not detriministic. Check db\events\advances_spread and advances_discovery.txt for the modifiers to the speed.

Wow, universities really give huge bonuses to research speed! Probably more worthwhile than going for Science first.

One thing that made my head spin was how class powers effected research speed.

Is there a simplified guide for that?
