What is loaded during "Creating Province"?

I'm trying to make an entirely new map and I've gotten to the "Creating Province" point in the loading order, but it always crashes there. So I'd like to know what does it do? In the log it says something about creating province collision data, but I haven't got the faintest idea what that means. So can someone help me and tell me which files are used so that I could track down the problem?

Also, what does "split" mean in the history/province files?

PS. I'm sorry if this has been discussed in some other thread, I searched the map editing -related threads but didn't find what I was searching for.

"Creating provinces" means that the game creates the textures for your provinces.
The rest of your questions are beyond my knowledge, but i guess you have either put the provinces too close to the end of the map, or you haven't assigned the right numbers to all provinces.

This shouldn't be the case, atleast I've checked and double checked them plenty of times. Could the crash be related to my OS (64bit vista) or graphics card (GeForce 8800 GTS)? Because when I try to make the vanilla create the textures for the vanilla map, it just makes a huge sea (there is nothing but water textures inland and at sea). Also, is there a minimum to the number of provinces? Because I only made 9, 6 of which are landprovinces.

Thank you for your time vanin.

Vanilla should at least create the original textures correctly. Start to find the error at that point.

It could be that your provinces are too large.
The maximum size is around 100x100 pixels which can also be 200x50.
Also make sure that the regions doesnt touch the map border. Leave 2 pixels room.

Make sure that your positions.txt is correct or leave it completely empty.
With an empty positions.txt it will take ages to load/calulate the pathes, but it works.

Woot! I got it working :D

I don't know what I had done wrong, but after making the provinces, terrain and river map out of the topology map it started working.

Thank you both for your help!
