Dear AndrewT and colleagues,

Since installing CK2 and other PDX games on a new PC (AMD Ryzen 3400G/Vega 11), I am experiencing a screen freezing bug. I don't think it's a PDX problem because other people with the same chip have reported similar problems in other games. But the only games I have that use the iGPU are PDX ones. So in order to properly bug report it in the right places and test workarounds/fixes, I would be grateful if you could give me some information.

The questions are:
- Does the game always use OpenGL on Linux by default?
- Is there any kind of alternative graphics system/driver/setting that I could try? Something I could put in the Steam launcher options?

I think that possible answers to the second question would involve DirectX, but I am still learning about this whole area so that may be comically wrong. Anything relevant would be helpful.

If Steam launcher options are documented somewhere, please do just point me there, but searching the wikis, forum, and game files all failed.

I am asking about all of the following games, but it may be more convenient to deal with all of them here to save repetition:
  • Cities: Skylines
  • Crusader Kings II
  • Crusader Kings III
  • Europa Universalis IV
  • Hearts of Iron IV
  • Imperator: Rome
I know that Victoria 2 is not officially supported on Linux, but any light you could shed would be appreciated.

I did find this helpful thread saying that Mesa drivers are recommended for C:S; please share any other recommendations you have.

My System Information is attached as requested.

Thank you in advance.

Yes,CK2 on linux uses OpenGL 2.1,same as EU4,however,since they were the first PDS games to support Linux natively, they had some graphical glitches with Mesa drivers, they have been fixed with the HOI4/Stellaris Clauzewitz engine version and onwards. What i advise you to do for the specific screen freezing bug is to try the game with Proton, this way,it will use DirectX and it should work better, for Victoria 2,it's the same but you should use the 4.11.13 version. However, you need Vulkan support on your card for that, normally, with the Ryzen 3400 g internal graphics, you should not have any issues for Vulkan support. For Cities Skyline,i don't know what it uses since i don't play it myself, but i guess it's OpenGL as well.

Magriboy, thank you for taking the time to reply. It is useful to confirm that CK2 and EU4 use OpenGL and to learn that they use 2.1.

Regarding trying the game with Proton/Direct X: I tried playing Imperator with Proton (to get around a bug with levies in the Linux version) and it simply would not start, even though I tried a couple of different versions of Proton, so I am not optimistic about that.

To the mystery user who disagreed with magriboy: please tell me why you disagreed!

The levies linux Bug has been fixed with the 2.0.2 patch. And the game is indeed not working with Proton currently, there is no fix mentioned for make it to work currently.
