I figured mods were only for those event-junkies that can't play a GC without getting spammed with historical anecdotes about their kings new pantaloons.

Irony aside, I cannot see why Vricklund couldn't be right, it's not as if any throughout statistical research has been done to establish how many people actually play agceep (or any other mod for that matter)... Looking through the strange screenshots thread shows a lot of screenies that are from vanilla on standard map and whatever us modders around here might like to think, it would seem that most players still appreciate the most original paradox' effort... ;)

Kasperus,

we discuss here popularity of mods, not whether ppl like mods and how many plays them. :p

Which is why I only quoted part of his post. I can wholeheartedly agree that many people prefer the original paradox effort and bear them no grudge. I actually only took exception with the part I quoted, that mods are for people who like events about the king's new pantaloons. ;)

I have datas for this: around 1000 downloads of AGCEEP every month and maybe more (no statistics for AGCEEP mirror).

Well, downloading is not equal to actual playing and even less to give it enough preference to be the 'most popular mod' as asked by ts... ;) I once tracked the number of downloads of MES from my server, which seemed rather unrealistically high as compared to the activity in our forum for example, so I am personally sceptic with regard to download data... :p
Anyway, it offers as a whole no valid data for comparison with the use and popularity of vanilla

That's why I use "downloads" and not "players". You may be right about downloads but vast majority of players don't contribute at all. Activity on forum is not a good measure neither.
I don't (and I can't) compare mods with each others and with vanilla... but vanilla is not a mod and question is 'most popular mod'.

Quite.

I have downloaded AGCEEP and have played it occassionaly, however I play my own modification more than any mod I have downloaded combined. It isn't that I don't like AGCEEP (I do) its just I prefer my own.

though people may downlaod a mod and then not like it (download number does not equate to 'me likey mod').

Most EU2 players probably do play vanilla, however I agree that the original poster asked about most popular mod. (ironically though, is that popular as in 'amount of downloads' or popular as in 'my most favourite'?) :D

I hardly claimed it was, I simply tried to illustrate the lack of throughout research with regard to this question. All proposed ways of measurement are imo inadequate.

True, it is an interesting comparison nevertheless as quite a few people seem to believe that nearly no one plays vanilla anymore

@Ayeshteni: "Popular" has so many meanings... You forgot "best known"!

IMHO, because of the number of versions of AGCEEP (each two months or so for new version), downloads are imperfect but significant datas.
Why would you dl almost (but improved) same thing each two months if you didn't like it the first time?

@Kasperus: easy to understand 1000 dls each month is not comparable with plausible EU2 players community.
But it is a fact we don't have number of members of this community. And, OTOH, buying the game doesn't imply you always play with it now.

If 1000 people play it then, considering my unscientific estimation of the current size of the active-in-the-forum eu2 community, it is a lot. And I do believe that using most interpretations of the word 'popular', agceep will end up as the most popular mod. But it is also hardly the case that all other eu2 mods do directly compete with agceep...

I won't make any conclusion.

We mod EU2 because we enjoy it. If players like it too, I'm happy... no matter how many they are.

exactly :D

I've got about 250 downloads of each version of ExtraWatk and I'm really surprised. I don't claim to have that many players liking it :p

To be accurate, AGCEEP, MyMap and ExtraWatk (maybe EP too) are competitors... they have very much in common. :)

Aye, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have generalised like that. Not all mods are like the AGCEEP. :p

So I'm loving AGCEEP, it's wonderful and all but all this talk about new maps make me so horny. Thing is, 0.3b(beta)? MyMap smacked? Do I go with WAK or MyMap? I hear good and bad but hell, do i need to wait for a more finalized version? Honestly, if there are issues I would rather stick with my AGCEEP 1.5.1.. it crashes enough as it is..

So, basically.. is it worth the trouble at this stage?

Try Aberration, it is not only a nice mod, but you won´t have to play France/Spain/England all the time.:)

THANK YOU! I was skeptical man about your mod "Aberration" but now that I'm playing it.. IT'S SO FUN!! I've always rooted for the underdog, and you were right, I don't wanna play France\England\Spain\Etc. all the time. I kept choosing smaller nations trying to make them into great ones but always came to the same frustrating end. AGCEEP is a wonderful mod indeed but it doesn't compare to how much fun I'm having playing your mod. I don't wanna sit here and slob your knob but I am having a ball playing as Eire. I made alliances with Brittany and Normandy at first and soon Burgandy and the H. League joined in. We warred and next thing I knew I had Flanderen and 3 other provinces nextdoor under my control and THEN I got an EXPLORER! Hot damn! I landed in Connecticut and things are looking wonderful! My inflation isn't already above 10% and Im not sitting still doing nothing for like 100 years.

For anyone that hasn't tried it go download his mod and start playing it now! It's so much fun and I had to pause it just to let the world know what I found. Thank you TheArchDuke for making a cool ass mod and please keep it up! Im looking forward to your additions.

Thanks again pal!

ps. I do have one question however, that CMD window that opens, do I need to leave it up while im playing? Or can I close it after the game starts? Not important just didn't wanna mess with it.
