D'Albon, de Baux, Obertenghi, Aleramo, of Salerno (the Lombard ones not the Greeks), de Guines, Nakonid, av Kalmar (it starts as "of Kalmar" but I always change the name), Basarab (Wallachia in the Hundred Years War scenario), Asen (County of Turnovo), de Vermandois (Charlemgne's heir), de Toulouse, de Barcelona, de Hauteville (Roger the Count of Regio, not Robert Guiscard), de Montbeliard, de Semur, de Macon, van Holland and of course de Lacon (Counts of Arborea, named Torchitorio in game, but I always change their name). Sorry for the shameless promotion :p.

My king just looks SO AWESOME:
Those are by far the best stats I've seen for any ruler in the game. And only 22, you should have 40 years for him to build a larger kingdom.

BTW, my favorite so far has been the Barcolona family. I like that they're mostly named Ramon and/or Berenguer in random order. Ramon Berenguer succeeded by Berenguer Ramon, succeeded by Ramon, succeeded by Berenguer, succeeded by Ramon Berenguer. Five generations before I even got another name. And when I did, it was from a nephew who had grown up as son of the duke of Porto and had become Portugese by culture. Long live Joao de Barcelona.

hehe. You have an great nickname btw, that is, if it is a reference to what I thing it is referring to.

And to all, I mainly stopped replying to every comment in this thread because it almost looked as I was boosting my thread :).

Thanks. It refers to John Carter of Mars. (For those who don't know, an old fantasy series about a human who roams around on the planet Mars, referred to by its inhabitants as Barsoom.)

I thought so. Fun books. I have only read one and 1 and 3, the ones that you would find in an Icelandic library, the rest were never translated.

Well, let's see: Hauteville, Rupenids, Von Oldenburg, Knytling, Welf (usually i get them into power in either saxony or Bavaria), de Vermandois, Barcelona (had one of my most entertaining game as the crusading house of Barcelona), Oh and Crovan. I find it entertaining starting out with next to nothing, uniting Ireland, and replacing the dukes with a proper norse-gaelic ruling class :) (although in one game, I ended up with both De Vermandois, palaiologus and welf people as dukes in Ireland, I like to keep those 3 alive xD)

Van Vlaandaren von Lenzburg, and of course, Nakonid. Nakonids are always fun because the older brother of the two always dies early, leaving one living member of the family to carry on the name. Effectively, all future generations descend from him.

I'm really enjoying my current game as the Saint-Gilles dynasty in 1187 scenario, the Dukes of Tripoli. Start as vassals of KoJ, can you surpass them? Plus it's fun because all around you are the Lusignan and the de Chatillon dynasties, eg the... less salubrious crusader dynasties, while you're descended from the one honourable crusader.

That's what I thought, until he died of Battle Wounds and was succeeded by Derp I, his 3 yr old son :/ Gotta love Crusader Kings :D

@ComradeNapoleon: I try my best to stop myself from saveloading, but after that, my impulse would be to ragequit (forcing me to reload).

I am currently on a game as d'Este, the Grisons branch. Deliberately picked a weaker starting position because I plan to do a conversion game taking me all the way from 1066 to HOI.

Yes Glory to the D'Estes! One of the cadet branches ended up Kings of England

I try too, but I sometimes ragequit as well. A little annoying problem.

Muqurra (renamed the stupid-sounding "of Dongola")

Hehe, I try to avoid the "of insert province" dynasties.

Georgia. They start off in a somewhat precarious position but with plenty of opportunity for expansion. They aren't too hard but still provide a decent challenge with both the Seljuks and Cumans on your borders (and later on the Mongols).

Doing my best. The main line is currently King of Sicily, Italy, Burgundy and Portugal, although a lot of my vassals are in revolt. (As he expanded, Count Fulco murdered his brother and his son, got excommunicated and became heretic.) Cadet branches rule as Duke of Cornwall and Count of someplace in Aragon. I also just installed my bastard brother as King of Africa.

Starting off as Crete and eventually forming a Greek Kingdom of Egypt was one of my best games. County of Lubeck is fun too; starting an independent, wealthy county with plenty of heathens to conquer and eventually forming Lithuania.

the Dalasenos of Kherson, the Greek Kings of Alania (and, eventually, Georgia)
one of the Rurikovic dukes or counts, trying to create Russia by conquest and assasination - although the first decades, with incompetent and inbred rulers and with the E.R.E. ahistorically expanding in Russia while losing, at the same time, Anatolia and Thrake to the Seljuks and/or rebels, can be quite disturbing and frustrating - but the feeling you get when proclaiming yourself King of all Russia is incomparable with anything else in the game!
Salamon of Hungary (on viagra) can also offer some interesting options, as his sons by Jutta von Franken are in line for the German throne. A Kingdom of Hungary, Bohemia and Germany and even Poland is deffinitely on the cards, just be careful not to upset your cousin in Nytra.
The Hohenzollerns are also a very interesting options, as they usually are granted the dukedom of Schwaben right after the Rheinfelden revolt is crushed by the von Frankens. Then it's just a matter of waiting for the Kingdom to disintegrate and picking up the pieces.

To be honest it always annoyed me that the Hohenzollern and not the Hohenstaufen are granted the duchy of Swabia after the Rheinfelden rebellion (historically the Hohenstaufen received the duchy). The AI sometimes acts differently, if one of the counties in Swabia isn't controlled by the AI (but granting it to the Hohenzollern seems to be default).
