With main I mean the standard religion that you see a lot throughout the world. Chalcedonian, catholicism, orthodox, sunni, shia, tengri, norse, the indian ones etc.

Looking for that new playthrough inspiration.

Personally I love paulicianism(?), the Chrysocheir start is a really good challenge.

Paulicianism is a really fun religion. But my preference goes for bogomilist, you have a special government, some kind of religious reform, it's really feel like a young heresy trying to evolve into a legitimate doctrine. The Kharijite are also very good, they are in some way the muslim counterpart of the Paulician. Manichean are also a good start if you want a "jewish-like" experience, but with some gnostic flavor, a religion far from his holy land, but at least you have a religious head. Druze and Yazidi are also good unique muslim heresy to try.

Prometheanism. A shame it didn't exist in the real world, because it totally should have. Religion centred around learning and education? Y'know, things that actually matter? Heck yes.

Celtic paganism because DRUIDS, baby. Enough said.

Zunism, because it's just awesome. You can celebrate Nowruz for a nice piety boost, and a lot of cool random stuff can happen with the Festival of Zun event. They're also the only ones who don't get pissed if you suggest that the earth revolves around the sun. Since they worship it and all, they actually love it if you do that. Unlike other pagans, they can also join the hermetic society, if that's something you want.

Zoroastrianism can be fun but challenging, because in the 769 start you're completely surrounded by Muslims, who will often try to annihilate you at the earliest opportunity. The "Divine Blood" boost is nice, but having to constantly get rid of deformed inbred kids and grandkids can get annoying. Celebrating Nowruz and getting the piety boost is good, though.

Haven't played much with the new Tibetan Bon faith yet, but it seems really cool so far.

it reminds me of a game that I played as Han starting in England and formed a western chinese empire in the britsh isles and every single duchy level and above titles were held by descedents of the founder of the dynasty. Almost 200 years after the start of the game the dynasty had more than 300 members with more than 100 livings. This would make it very fun to do a zoroastrian conversion.

I had a lot of fun creating a Druze society in the Levant. I even managed to accidentally convert the Eastern Roman Emperor, though I reloaded, because it was too silly.

I'd like to give one of the Shia heresies a try, but I wouldn't know where to begin.

I usually like playing Celtic or Manichean. I took a look at the Bogomilist faith and their government looks interesting, but I'd have to play them a bit more to make a fair comment.

I'm looking forward to see what improvements CK2+ will have once it is updated for Holy Fury.

Celtic with Holy Fury is going to be the most fun I've had in years in game.
