So, I got yelled at something fierce by my friend today. He's the one who owns all the Paradox games that I've been playing. Yea, turns out that I like the games more than him and he is not fond of that. Anyway, now that I'm addicted to these games I need to buy them, but here's the rub: I'm broke.

I've been able to scrounge up $20 to buy games for this month, but which ones should I buy? I want Vicky II and AHD and Revolutions. I can get all of those for $40, but I don't have $40. If I get them individually, I pay more.

I could get CK I for $10, but that does not give me a pretty little badge, and I very much want more badges, as sometimes I think people judge me that I have so few.

I could get DH for $10, but I want the other games more. It'd give me a badge though.

My current steam wishlist is as follows:

Crusader Kings 1 ($10) - no badge
Darkest Hour ($10) - badge

Victoria Revolutions ($10) - badge
Victoria II ($20) - badge
Victoria II AHD ($20) - badge
Sengoku ($20) - badge
Crusader Kings II ($40) - badge - not sure if my computer could even handle it

= bought

Good Evening Nickjbor,

It is nice to see a fellow Ontarian here in the forums.. I would like to point out that Paradox currently has a websale on for 55% of regular price. You could get Victoria 2 + AHD for $18... Hopefully that will work for your budget.

If you do end up getting the both, shoot me a message either here or on steam and I'd be happy to meet up and play with you.

Hope you get what your looking for!

saywha? Where is this sale?! I already decided to buy some games cause I didn't see any sale :|

The 55% sale is on Paradox's site.

Of the games on your list, the only ones I'd avoid are CK I and maybe Vic I:

CK I was kinda fun, but it always had its quirks, and CK II is so much better. (Do check your computer specs though if you're worried about that.)
CK II: $18 at Paradox store - 2 DLCs also available at store.

Similarly, Victoria I + Revolutions was a good game, but it's now a little dated. Victoria II is better, though again check your computer specs.
Vic II: $9 a Paradox store - DLC is NOT shown at store

Darkest Hour - Never played it, but I know a lot of the HOI2 players still swear by it.
DH: $4.50 at Paradox store

Sengoku - Honestly it FELT like a CK Beta - to me - and managed to confuse me. Then again, I confuse easily.
Sengoku: $9.00 at Paradox store

And of course more expansions and games are available direct from Steam, but at full price. As you probably know though, Steam isn't shy about running sales, so patience may help with that.

As for what order to buy them in....I'd say whatever will give you the most bang for your $20. Only you can decide which games really interest you or which are 'nice to have.'

I'm going to get the hang of CK I before I try CK II
I suggest that this is like arguing that you need to learn how to ride a horse before you learn how to drive a car...

CK1 isn't easier than CK2. It's just older, and cruder and less well developed and lacking in features.

Have you ever considered not buying a new game until you have thoroughly exhausted the one previous?...I've made it 12 years on just four games!! Wish my karaoke habit could be that cheap.

I want more badges.

Also on CK, I'd like to learn the game with fewer features first as learning this game seems like it'll be an effort.

I'm not sure how big of a help that would be. CK1 has less features, but it also has lots of things that are completely different from CK2. The best way to learn CK2 is to watch Let's Play videos on YouTube, not to play CK1.

At the time I asked I had not bought it, and, there are a number of other games on the list I've still not bought.
