What the devil..?

I have what seems a most unusual problem...

I start the EU2 prog. The intro movies play just fine - beautifully, in fact. *blisses at his new system* Then...nothing. Just *pouf*, the game disappears utterly and without a trace. After a bit of research, I discovered that both EU2 and BinkPlayer run more or less as they're supposed to until the end of the intro; but when BP disappears, so does EU2. System-spex follow:

- Operating system: WinME
- CPU: Celeron, ~900MHz
- Memory: 128MB (Corsair!)
- HDD free space: 3.58GB
- Video Card: Diamond Stealth III S540
- Sound Card: Creative AWE64 Gold
- CD-ROM: Memorex CD-322E (M$ semi-generic driver)
- Ethernet card: NetGear FA310TX Fast PCI
- And yes, I have read the initial thread. :>

With hope for a brighter (well, actually any a-tall would do right now) EU future...

Did it ever run before that or is it the first time you have problems with this game? I am suspecting copy protection problem...

Try a few things:
-change your desktop resolution to 800x600 as well as the game (EU2 settings)
-try the latest drivers, if you haven't done it already
-rename the avi folder in your game directory to AVI_OLD
-install the latest EU 2 patch (see the thread "Latest patches")

Were it only that simple.

It has never run on this machine, no.

I have tried all of that; my stupid crappy monitor won't support anything over 8x6. >.< When I rename <avi>, I get the exact same results.

well I'm almost 100% sure it's the copy protection preventing you from running the game.

So, you'll have to e-mail SF about your problem, or even better e-mail Nabil directly. Just tell Nabil you came here and you tried all our suggestions and still can't get the game to run. Tell him I believe it's the copy protection software preventing you to run the game. He should have a patch available for this problem. However, you won't be able to install 1.02 right now (sorry), only 1.01. You will have to check here later or with Nabil to see if there is an unprotected version for 1.02.

here are the symptoms regarding the copy right protection..

upon starting the game, the mouse cursor will turn to an hour glass and BAM! nothing happens. if it goes past that it is unlikely it is the securom, but then again. i might be wrong..
