Will it be like EU3; starting somewhere in the 1300s-1400s till middle of the 19th century or will it stretch over a longer time, or even a shorter time? I'm hoping for a start around 1230, right after the mongol empire has started to expand over the world, until somewhere in the middle 1800s:cool:

It will probably be a start somewhere between 1420-1450 like past EU games until the late 1700s. It will include over 300 years of gameplay but exact dates are unknown.

Odds are the end date of CKII and the start date of Vicky2 since the maps should blend in nicely. Then we need a European Dark Ages from the fall of Rome to William the Norman's England invasion.

Personally I'd like a smaller timeline, for me I never played it to the end.

I saw the year 1445 in one of the screenshots so it's not 1453 start. Comparing the map in the trailer with EU3 political map mode, the nearest year that is similar to that map is 1441.

I think the startdate will be 1444. The battle of Varna was the last "crusade" and failed miserably. So the Byzantine Empire could be in the game, but would certainly always die right after the start.

Its also rather tempting to start around 1492 because the map becomes less cluttered with minor states that tend to throw a wrench in the system. I mean I think I saw Spain form once or twice in all my games of EU3. Some like it like that I suppose but I´d like to see some trends followed by history pop into the game.

Well, Kazan exists (it formed in 1438), so if Pdox follows real history (which they likely will) it's between 1438 and 1445. I expect it will end in 1789 and they'll make Revolution-Napoleon a DLC.

If they can do coalitions and diplomacy work correctly and feel "real", then it is an automatic buy from me.

Vanilla without Byzantium? Ooohhh, we're travelling on dangerous waters now! :p

It's a very safe bet that the game will play roughly the same timescale as EU3 vanilla did. With expansions, we might get to start a bit earlier and play a bit later, but it won't be that very different really. Early/Mid-1400s to Mid/Late-1700s

Crimean Khanate became independent in 1441, Kazan in 1438, Nogai Horde in 1440. If I see Astrakhan Knanate there, which became independent in 1459... And no border in Thrace... Then that means that the year is at least 1453 (the Constaninople is already captured), and probably even 1459-1460.

Is it sure that the map is that of the starting year? Everyone seems to assume that.

Are you even sure that's the actual map? Everything we've seen might just be a series of prototypes.

Please let Byzantium be in! I don't want to have to wait a year after the release for an expansion that adds Byzantium or for someone to make a half-decent mod with Byzantium in it...

But Byzantium is already in CK2. We shouldn't compromise EUIV just to add a country whose date of extinction is considered the end of the middle ages.
