  • Stellaris - Path to Destruction bundle
So I have bought the game, loaded it up, done the tutorial and begun my first game as the Romulan Star Empire.

So, two things strike me. Firstly, I have a size 29 terraformable planet within the Romulan system.

Secondly, looking at the mission tree, there is no way to save the Romulus system. It will be destroyed once the supernova event chain begins.

So basically, I am burdened with the knowledge that what would otherwise be my core system is fated to be destroyed. Does anyone know if there is a path to avoid the destruction of Romulus and, if not, is there anything I can do with the planet beyond treating it as a pop factory?

And losing that size 29 terraformable is going to sting too...

Stellaris has the "Doomsday" challenge origin (added in the Federations DLC), in which your homeworld is fated to explode 35-45 years after game start, and you don't get the usual two guaranteed nearby habitable planets. You need to throw a lot of resources into either exploration and settlement, or warfare and conquering, to establish a new home for your people and center for your empire. Depending on the timing of the event, I would tend to think a Romulan start would be similar; decide whether you are better off settling a new home, or taking one by force; and focus your efforts appropriately.

Wait, how early in the game is the supernova supposed to happen? I thought it would be well into endgame.
bout 45 years in it goes boom, about 30 mins on 1.5x

I wish there was a way to avoid it. Hopefully a mod can sort it out. A difficult event chain you can use to prevent the destruction of Romulus.
