Canadian Navy is actual in a huge shift right now. The main objective will be protecting are sovereignty in the arctic. Not only are the Halifax's going through a modernization program right now. BuT the RCN WILL be getting 2 possibly 3 Joint Support ships. We will be building are own, tho design is based roughly on the Norwegian Craft. Canada will also start producing the new arctic patrol craft. Thirdly the RCN is in the beginning stages on designing a ship to replace the gap left for decommission on our Destroyers. These are slated to start entering service in the early 20s. It would be a real shame to have a game based around the Arctic and not have one of the Navies that are best suited to fighting in it.

I'm not too sure that having some arctic patrol ships qualifies Canada as one of the best cold water forces. :p

Regardless, the fact that we have a frightening amount of arctic territory, and a lot of airbases in the theatre should qualify us for inclusion, regardless of whether or navy is in the top 5 or top 10 for cold water engagements.

No one's advocating Canada should have the best navy in the game, only that we should be in the game.

There's no question that I'd like to see Canada feature, as you said It's pretty hard to ignore given the territory, but I just think the other poster was over-estimating what assets the Canadian Maritime Command actually has. Also, I wasn't aware Canada had any airbases in the Arctic circle, which Canadian bases are in that theatre?

Just to clarify, the battle area will range all the way from well south of the arctic circle (like Britain!) to the far north :)

Don't worry, I get that part :p. I'm just curious about what assets Canada can deploy up there.

I only see the Halifax being interesting in that respect, and then as part of a NATO task force.

One could imagine including the Victoria/Upholder class subs, because it's hard to imagine a credible Canadian naval defense without subs, but they're getting old and were plagued by all sorts of problems to begin with.

so does that mean that it will be more like a nato vs russia? wouldnt that make more sense? due to several primary nato members being involved in the conflict and using nato bases.

Have you decided what countries will be in?

You could use sexier ships from more remote countries as allied help in the game. I bet Brazilians would want to see their CVs in for example, even if they aren't someone who has claims up there. Even if that means their ships will be flying as a part of US task forces.

Most famously, Alert Airbase located at 82°30′05″N 062°20′20″W

Alert isn't an airbase, I don't know why you presented the link to say Airbase. It doesn't have the facilities to host even a small number of CF-18s. The only military aircraft to use it is the C-130 on supply missions. Canadian Forces Station Alert is not an airbase (it has limited flight facilities and a gravel runway), it's a signals intelligence intercept facility with a runway to enable supplies to be delivered.

Really no reason to bring Sweden as country to the game, six corvettes and four submarines won't do a whole lot. High five on living in Norrköping!

Why? Because you live there? :p
Yup. And I've always wanted to influence our modern history somehow and feel to be a part of it. :p

Yea, you're correct. Sweden was and is weak and can't afford a navy worthy to compete with the other Nordic countries. And we are a bit isolated from the Arctic Ocean. If it ever becomes an Arctic cold war, then we have to trust on our western neightbours... Or just keep the state neutral as usual. ^^

And yes... Peking! :)

The only way to present sweden without making it weak is the same way to present Norway without making it weak: Re-creation of the Kalmar Union! (or a military alliance version of it). After all NATO is going to be splintered, so this is a fine opportunity.

Besides seeing Visbys and Skjolds side by side makes a sexy naval force.

Xmasbeer: we're thinking along these lines, yes!

Sweden (as well as the other Nordic countries) will certainly be in the game, though not as a playable side in a strict sense, since it doesn't have enough variety in units.

Maybe Scandinavia could be playable in multiplayer; their opponents would have to forgo things like strategic bombers, nuclear subs and carriers, but why not? Scandinavia + UK is probably a better option for this. Just thinking out loud here :D
